Was in an accident earlier this week. Hit by a driver while I was turning left. Spun my car almost 360* Carbon fiber diffuser destroyed. She snapped my wheel in half, rear quarter panel messed up, side skirt and rear bumper too, caliper missing a few chunks, tires may all have flat spots now? no idea what else damage wise may have happened.

I'm new to the insurance and accident game. Worried I'm going to get screwed. They may feel side skirt can just be pushed back into place and called ok or other issues overlooked. ABS Lights are on etc. Odds of car totaled not very likely I assume? 2011 135i 60k miles.

I either want to get her back flawless, or get the check fix her to stock maybe pocket a little and sell her.

Any advice or input is really appreciated. Can post more pics if that would help.

It doesnt take much for a total loss. I'm a banker not a adjuster but that looks totaled. If your wheel broke off how it did, you got hit pretty hard, and there is no telling how screwed up the subframe is.

boyerstyle > First question you need to ask yourself, is if you're going to keep the car. Rear quarters that are mauled like yours, have to be replaced -- the whole thing. There is no repairing that. That means window out, spot welds removed, weather sealer removed. Also, in your case, the interior wheel well (metal not the plastic liner), will also need to be replaced.

If you're keeping the car, it's the perfect time to go "1M Conversion". I recon that both (135i and 1M) rear panels cost about the same. The insurance will also probably cover a new rear bumper. Keep in mind though, that body-shops sometimes repair the damaged bumper (which they get paid IN FULL to replace with new parts), and pocket the money.

The insurance will cover one side of the accident. You just have to work out a deal with the shop for the opposite side.

I know its not what you're asking or probably even thinking about -- but this is a great opportunity.

Hmmmm definitely not something I had been thinking. Any idea what the one side repair will cost on the quarter panel? I had carbon fiber diffuser too that I'm hoping I can get a decent chunk for.. I'd be open to considering a conversion right now. Love the 1er... If she got totaled out for some reason I'd just buy another one.

IF I were you, I'd hope for insurance calling it a total, take the check and go buy a new 135i.... Trying to get that fixed along with matching paint and all the other things just seems like a giant headache.

That looks in the 20-30k damage area. The rear 1/4 panel is the most expensive part of the body to replace. You are basically replacing the entire side of the car.

The complete rear 1/4 panel has to be replaced, which means pulling the rear and side glass and replacing, as the molding only comes with the glass. Will need a complete right rear suspension, hub, bearing, brakes, axle and a subframe for sure.

Sorry to hear.

Could go either way for writing it off, depends on the insurance company.

My own car got dinged on the right rear by a texting soccer mom. Was still driveable, estimate was $21k. And that was without suspension damage. Luckily they were able to repair the 1/4, not replace it.

Thank you for your comments. Shop is telling me that quarter panel replace will be around 50
Hours plus parts.. I think they are 60/hr for the insurance? So only 3k there before the part ??? how do I get this thing totaled??

They haven't gotten underneath, turns out other driver is not taking fault, so the battle begins.

Theres nothing you can do to have it totalled. Its all about cost of repair vs 2011 current value. Once they start getting to 75% of the value in repair cost its totalled. Just going by looking at what i can see, it doesnt appear to be totalled. But theres always hidden damage.

I'd guess that looks like 6-10k in damage, depending on how much you're paying for labor and if you're buying new parts or not. Sending you a PM

I've always filed a claim with my own insurance provider, and they subsequently subrogate with the at fault party's insurance. I've never been hung out to dry.

Also, you have no say in terms of whether or not the car is totaled or not. You can't simply, "get it totaled." There are various differing guidelines on what it takes to total a car, but it often has to do with the repair estimate and value of the vehicle.
