I stopped reading C&D and MT years ago...just look at the covers and move over to Automobile and R&T....less Adverts....if you look it seems that 1/2 of C&D and MT are advertisements and both mags have reports on the same exact subjects each month...bleehhhhhh.

They all pretty much suck but Automobile is a travel mag dude! I was literally wasting trees having them send me that piece of crap, and so I've done my part
if I was forced to rank the majors: 1. C&D (R&T has been lacking relevant content big time) 2. R&T 3. Autoweak 4. MT 5. Automotravel Last edited by Monterra; 07-31-2009 at 09:45 AM.. |

Hey, hey...I like big pictures on great paper...hence me reading Automobile....I also like reading Sport Compact Car although they lean very heavily towards VW content.

Besides the HPFP what else has been a chronic problem on the 1er?
To be honest I don't even consider the HPFP a 1er problem since it's problematic across the different models. (N54 135i/335i/535i) So what is the biggest quality gripe?? The 3rd brake light falling out? LOL I'm sorry, but these magazines are full of idiots. |

HPFP is a problem for 335i's as well. A friend of mine with a 2007 335i just had his replaced.
The MT article lumps 3 series with M3's and 5 series with M5's. Your guess on how THAT impacted ratings. The ball joint "problem" is not real - it was evidently a "practical" joke. Now we need to stomp out the rumors. http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...=288431&page=3 |

Hey I'm not saying the 3 series isn't worthy of its 4 stars M3 included or not. But last year, both 1 and 3 series got 4, both have the TT's HPFP problems and I think reliability issues would impact CRs ratings alot, not so much MT. Mazda Miata- 5 stars? Its a nice little runaround for the money if you can fit it it but c'mon 5 stars? What did they do from last year to this to gain a full star- 3hp and a uglier front fascia, right. Drive before you die(their 5 star description)? That's really pushing it. I think this year's ratings are total nonsense and they've lost pretty much any credibility(wasn't much to start with) I gave them prior to this joke of a publication.

I really don't understand why BMW hasn't issued a recall for the HPFP. Even if it's an expensive move to make, I would think that the kind of lawsuit they would face if someone actually lost their life because the engine shut down in the middle lane of a busy expressway would be incentive to be proactive about it.
If that's the message that MT is trying to send - "fix the problems" - it's a good one. BMW can't afford to let the HPFP problems tarnish the mastery they've accomplished in the 1-series. I'm going to be very interested in what Consumer Reports has to say going forward. They gave the 1-series a score of "97" (out of 100) when they first reviewed it. That's insane.

I think MT would've mentioned it if that was their reasoning. I'll let you know if/when I get a reply from them.
For CR- it'll just come down whether or not they give it the check mark "recommended" rating or not. 97 will stay as that is based on performance data they gathered. |

let me say this: if another car company had put out a car that was faster than the 335 with an equally good motor and bigger breaks, comparable suspension for 5 grand less they would be all over it like "the king is dead" (remember when the g35 came out. for my money this was the right buy and i don't regret it at all.
