Consumer Reports 2005 Reliability

http://autos.msn.com/advice/CRArt.as...tentid=4023544

the 7 and X series didn't fair too well. Looks like Lexus has got us beat hands down on reliability.

Here's why I cancelled my subscription to consumer reports...

What is the one and ONLY rating that counts?

Owner satisfaction.

That's right. If your car has subpar reliability, yet in every other aspect is the perfect car (and you love it more than your dog) they will still not recommend it. What kind of sense is that? It's double jeopardy. At some point reliability is going to affect satisfaction.

The one year they didn't recommend the three series because it had slightly below average reliability while having the highest owner satisfaction I realized. Consumer Reports doesn't really matter to me.

Good for all those Camry owners in their reliable and soulless cars!!

This is no surprise. Consumer reports bases reliability on the reported number of repairs--i.e., repair record of the cars it rates. However, reliability is only one of many criteria used by them in recommending a new car.

Bear in mind that the newest models (e.g., e90) that have had a shorter track record tend to be evaluated more conservatively. When you read the April issue of Consumer Reports, you can see how the newest model ratings will change in subsequent CR issues in years to come.

All of these surveys involve ownership satisfaction. What's interesting about CR surveys is that they include reader surveys. This begs the questions. Are readers of CR more likely to own luxury autos or better yet, what type of individual orders CR?

I like JD Power Survey of 3 yrd old autos.

You know, it's funny I went with my dad to take his Lexus in a day ago and the service manager at Lexus was talking that they have such better quality and they have a much better product than the Germans, especially BMW. Saying that BMW makes technology and it never works right and always has a problem. I informed him I just got a BMW and couldn't be happier. He shut up right then about that topic and went on to my dad's car. I don't get why Lexus thinks they have such an amazing car or product.

Good point. Intuitively, I would think there would be more left brain subscribers than right brain ones.

Japanese manufacturers > German manufacturers

We need a car with German engineering, Japanese reliability, Korean warranty, and uh. Domestic torque?
