BMW M1 Spotted Again

I think it's going to look better than perform... If it doesn't match the M3 then BMW has comprimised.

It is not 135xi. BMW will not build any xDrive on the actual generation E8X. It is a real M1. Of course it will not be faster than M3, for the simple reason that the next M1 F20 FI I4 can not be faster than the next M3 F30 FI I6. But if to speak about mods, the M1 will let the M3 behind, at least on straight line. Look at 911 and Cayman.

I'm still speculating that this is a 135xi mule, rather than the so-called ///M1. This is not an xDrive- there are no plans to intro that on a dead platform.

The tires are snows- BMW features snows on all of its mules after required by German law. The wheel offsets are not correct- accommodating the actual stance of the car but not the tire width (can you find snows at 9"+ inches in width?- No).

The rear fenders will be flared in much the same way as they are testing geometry etc. so the rear is showing the right footprint, they would not go through the trouble of making the flares like this if they were not going to make them like that in the end.

The rear will be very aggressive to accommodate the wider wheels, shafts, and diff. A lot of these components will be shared with the ///M3 to keep costs down so they may sacrifice typical mundane looks and go overly aggressive to make things work, think E30 ///M3- the rear fenders were at the time a huge departure from conventional design.

In these mules the metal work has remained stock- I wonder if they will create an entire rear third with wider flanks to lessen the wheel arch flares or just go with flares in final trim- there are a few of these mules out there so we may start to see subtle differences.

I disagree...
350hp and same torque should be able to move smaller M1 faster than M3, since there is so much more torque available from down low.
Also once the tuners get a hold of that TT engine - 500hp is something tuners can expect reasonably.
What BMW will probably do is rate it 0-60 slightly lower than M3 for marketing reasons. That works for me.

Next gen TT inline 6 on M3 will be a Monster and next gen M1 will probably be slower than M3 if it gets inline 4.

In regards to the mechanicals they know what the car should be just as they know what engine it should be they are now just making sure everything is well integrated to take the car to production. Extensive work is being done on the suspension to make it more firmer and dynamic.

Soon we will see typical BMW camouflaged body shells arrive in public this will commence in late Spring they have just begun to internally test the cars at BMW's private proving grounds whilst prototypes have their winter development programme in the frozen Scandanavia.

The rear fender is not as wide as the prototype would have you believe, it is wider than the 135i as is the front fender to accomodate the wider track.
The overall look is more akin to the E46 M3 and we remember how that had the right side of muscular athleticism without being too brutal.
No one is going to say it's a 1er with a sporty bodykit as per the focus group they had a standard 135i , 135i BMW Performance Packet and the M1 in a row and it was easily identifiable because it looked more muscular.

I own a 135i myself in Beautiful Sedona Red and the key differences are highly evident when you drive both back to back .
Even through my limited drive the M1 feels more dynamic and sounds more raw even than the 135i.

In terms of visual appearance the car is ready.

I mostly agree with ya Maxx. However, I think the top end acceleration of the M3 will still trump in stock form.

The pic depicted makes it look like there could be a roof spoiler. That'd be a first.

The front fenders are cut out too, it seems. Test mules don't have to be of thee car, but of a certain aspect of which they are testing, based off the 135i.

Nothing new here. What is odd, is that some people don't understand the concept of engineering, testing and validating.


Coincidentally, from the looks of it, the M1 is probably going to have a 4" wider track than the 135i. That goes along with having fat tires too; 235's up front (at least) and 275's (at least) in the rear.

That^^ alone will make the 135i an uber handling car... even if nothing else changes. But we know a good many things are going to change. Wider track means more stability, fatter tires mean more traction..etc.

The M1 will simply own!

The M3 E46 with 343 hp had 255 rear and 225 front. Even the new m3 does not have 275 wide on the rear.

I think we see E46 m3 sizes and maybe front a bit wider to 235

The actual car will have new headlights (about time).
It will have flared arches.
It will be called M2 - BMW just registered the trademark in Germany.
Price under 50000 euros (in Europe anyway).
