Real world MPG?
So now you peeps have been tooling around I'd be very much interested in what kind of fuel economy you been getting. Petrol
and diesel models pls? I am personally thinking of going diesel, but some reports suggest that the claimed economy may be a touch on the optimistic side? Thanks. |

Did a 325i Euro Delivery. Drove 800 miles over the course of 4 days. City, Autobahn, and twisty country roads. Clear sailing and the worst gridlock I have ever experienced in my life. 24.8 mpg.

What city are you guys driving in? I live in Chicago and ran a bunch of errands last Saturday. For those of you who live in the Lincoln Park / Lakeview area, you know how busy Saturdays are with traffic. After several hours of tracking my mpg's I ended up at 9 miles per gallon!! I am not kidding. Ok, there was a fair amount of waiting at stoplights, but that's Chicago, and this was typical "city" driving! (Yes, I was in "D" mode, and I was baby-ing the gas pedal, trying to maximize the mileage).
I get 25 MPG's on the highway. By the way good topic. I'm interested to see more responses on heavier city driving. |

24 MPG (US) is 30 MPG (UK) - just add 1/4 or 25%. (same with a pint of beer .. US pint is 16 FL OZ and UK is 20 FL OZ) Last edited by carl_d; 08-14-2005 at 10:17 AM.. |

I have averaged something around 22mpg since getting the car and I'm at about 3200 miles. Even mix of city and highway driving.
On the drive up to Seattle I was getting closer to 27mpg averaging about 80mph. I'm happy with the mileage. Its as I expected.

Pretty hard to extrapolate a precise consensus from what's been posted so far.
I was looking on the BMW website and it's quite interesting to see that they listed both the 325i and 330i with the same mileage ratings at 21/29 (U.S. gallons). I'm not sure if it's a typo - is this the same issue on the window stickers of both these models? If that's the case, it's all for the better, obviously. |

The 325i returns are looking very liveable... Especially on 15k miles pa.. Was anyone else surprised at the Jason Plato (fifth gear review of the 320d?) 34 mpg over a 1000 miles of Euro motorways? (3 tanks of diesel!) |

My car has done under 2000km's (So it's not fully run in yet) and in real life ie taking my trip meter divided by the amount of litres of diesel I use, I'm averaging 8.7l/100km, which is about 28 mpg if my calculations are correct.
The dealer says it should drop down to about 7l/100km, but I think it's high still because: 1. It's still brand new 2. I drive like a maniac (My 325 was averaging 13l/100km ~17mpg) My fuel consumption is about 1/3 less than it was on my 325i. (E46) I don't do much driving, but I am definately finding a savings in fuel :P |

Well we don't seem to be getting many UK mpg reports so here's mine:
E90 325iSE Manual, 1687 miles, 98RON Shell Optimax only: Urban(city): 21.5mpg Extra Urban(highway): 41.5mpg Looks like the Valvetronic really does make a difference in fuel consumption (trust me, my city has bumper to bumper traffic at all times)! To compare, my old E46 318i Auto got 19mpg urban and 44mpg extra urban. |

wow over 40mpg(UK gallon) for the 325 on the Motorway? Anyone one else getting similar?
So the difference in economical terms seems to have really narrowed between the 320d and 325i... (yes I know the 320d has 330i like in gear acceleration times) |

I've been very pleased with the fuel usage on my 325i. Nearly the same as my Protege5, and SO much more enjoyable!
I have a program on my Palm to track usage: Average 26.67 MPG (mixed Toronto city/highway/rush hour) Max 31.95 MPG Min 24.15 MPG (up at the cottage, lots of winding roads to play on...) And it's definitely improving, 10566km on the ODO now and over 30 MPG on my last 3 fills.
