I can't post my own thread yet but can you guys give me some feed back on possibly selling my 2010 gti for a 2010+ 128? Tired of the hatch and FWD of my gti. The 128 is pretty comparable to the gti and I would like the power of a 135 but deff don't need it

One thing that surprised me about 128i is that the rear seats fold really flat should you need it. Almost like Golf. Stock sport suspension package was way more planted & comfortable then MK4. Transition to RWD was welcome, electronic stability controls are very good and give a sense of safety.

Thanks guys. I'm looking for a 128 in white with the msport package and it has to be a manual. The biggest obstacle for me is getting out of my current car since I owe about what it is worth. I'm going to have to sell privately and hopefully get a decent amount. I took a bad deal on the GTI and am trying to get straightened out I was orinally looking at WRXs, while faster the gas consumption and insurance cost is what led me to look at other options |

i got a AW 128i MT, albeit without sport package.. though it did come with 135i rims and tires, and i'm buying msport suspension tonight locally, so it'll really only be missing the seats. You'll love it. I get 27 mpg hand calculated(25.5 on the dash) and thats driving with fun every day, i do 50 miles on the highway daily.

see if you can get the seats heated too. They are wonderful on many occasions.
Other options that are often mentioned here as regrets for some: - Stereo without USD & iphone integration ability for music- but I dont think people were super pleased with the most High end stereo option. So aim for iphone / USB /Aux playback - Factory Car alarm = no longer a retrofit since 2010. Aftermarket for 2010+ is something you should look before you decide that you dont want from factoy - Bluetooth = I dont have it, I dont know why people ask about it. Not an easy retrofit & expensive - M3 steering wheel...is possible= cuz racecar - Sun roof BTW inspect the Driver seat. The Vynyl, depending on past owner, could be cracked.

You only get bluetooth streaming if you get the nav system. Didn't have it in my 128i and I couldn't stream. Have it in my 1M and I can stream.
Unless it that much of a pain to plug the phone in you're better off with the cable anyway. You will get better sound quality from the cable plus it charges it. You can buy extension cables for the Y cable on Amazon if the Y cable is too short for you. If you have nav though you can just use a regular iPod cable, be it the old 30 pin or the new Lightning cable. As for the other things Andrey mentioned, I think the Harman/Kardon is definitely worth it. I'm not sure where he is getting that people aren't satisfied with it. All I've seen are positive things about it. It is leaps and bounds better than the base stereo in my 128i. And the factory alarm is worth it because most insurance companies will give you a discount is you have one. |

Current year nav systems have the bluetooth streaming. Not all prior years do.
The base audio is really a imprecise moniker. There are three different audio systems, and the true base one was only used in the US for about a year and a half. It truly sucks. The current base system is not quite as good as the hK system, but its actually pretty decent. And for the price of the hK upgrade one can get more quality from aftermarket if you are willing to go there. But it requires DIY to meet that price point. It depends on whether you are an afficiando. And btw if you do want to use aftermarket gear, integrating with the non hK system is easier. Personally, I like the nav system for all the non nav functions and sometimes regret not getting it. Sounds like you are getting the sports pack. It you didn't I'd say get the sport seats, at least, if possible. I upstaged my suspension in spots, but upgrading the seats is too pricey to consider.

Im not really an audiophile, I actually drive 60% without any stereo even though I have 16 GB of music on the USB.
Regarding the HK stereo comment , I saw some posts in the audio section. Can you comment on this. How useful? How is it at night? Does it hurt the yes like the cheap ebay mirrors.

I love the wide angle mirrors. There are some shots posted around here (a search for wide angle mirror or blind spot mirror should turn them up).
They effectively eliminate the blind spot, but with a gradual curvature that works nicely, I think. Way better than little round discs. Of course, they cost 20 times the price of a little round disc. But I find there's no way I can miss my blind spot, and I can still see the side of my car -- to get a sense of my relationship to everything on the road -- and that is very important for safety for me. And they are OEM so they look clean (though euro OEM so I had to order them from Denmark). Not sure what you mean about night time. Note I don't have dimming mirrors. I think they make them for those, too, but am not sure. --- IMO, if one is an audiophile, the HK system may not satisfy. If one is NOT an audiophile, I think the "hifi" base system (not the disastrous base model that was the basic system in parts of 2010 and 2011; but the base system before and after that, which includes tweeters in the windows) is likely to satisfy. Of course, if you want super thumpin bass, that's a whole different thing from "audiophile" -- and you gotta get a dedicated sub, imo.

Regarding night time driving, do you experience any discomfort or errors in judgement of space. i had ebay e36 style m3 mirrors on an older car and it took a month to get used to the eye strain & distances

No discomfort but I was used to having a circle mirror on my last car. In terms of judgment, it's easy. If you see anything there, the lane is not empty. Objects are closer than they appear.

I looked up the parts: Same caliper, but smaller rotor. Do you think its worthwhile to order 130i/BMW x1 rotor for 128i as a maintenance? I don't know when i will be able to do BBK of any kind

eBay has many lightly used m3 steering wheels. Just check the front trim fitment and how easy it is to swap airbags.
