B51-22-10 Service Campaign?
I took my car in to fix an exhaust leak I found and was told that there was a "service campaign" (B51-22-10) for the 135i that relates to sound dampening.
Anyone know what this is about? I gave the SA the go-ahead, but was hoping you guys could provide some info as I was in a rush to get to work. |

Here's the info,
Recall Campaign 10V-254: Modify Sound Insulation MODEL E82, E88 (1 Series) SITUATION In a crash of sufficient severity, deployment of the front pre-tensioner and load-limiter occurs. This is normal. However, in rare circumstances, it is possible that the insulation around the pre-tensioner could ignite. CAUSE The distance between the safety belt retractor units and the sound insulation located in the B-pillar is too small. AFFECTED VEHICLES This Recall involves 1 Series vehicles which were produced from January 15, 2010 up to May 27, 2010.

BUT.... my car was produced in the last week of Dec, 2009. BMW might have increased the effected models. ??? |

The bulletin is from july 2010, here's some more,
In order to determine whether a specific vehicle has had this Recall Campaign completed or is affected by this Recall Campaign, first check the B-pillar label for code number 565. If code number 565 has been punched out, the campaign has already been performed. If code number 565 has not been punched out, it will be necessary to utilize the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or the Key Reader. Based on the response of the system, either proceed with the corrective action or take no further action.

[QUOTE=Dackelone;7748297]
Quote:
VEHICLES PRODUCED UP THROUGH DECEMBER 2009 WILL RECEIVE NEW FRONT SAFETY BELT RETRACTOR UNITS AND A MODIFICATION TO THE SOUND INSULATION NEAR THE UNITS, WHILE VEHICLES PRODUCED BETWEEN JANUARY 2010 AND MAY 2010 WILL RECEIVE A MODIFICATION TO THE SOUND INSULATION NEAR THE UNITS. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING AUGUST 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT BMW AT 1-800-525-7417. So, there are probably two service bulletins, one for replacing the retractors on cars up to Dec. 2009 and the bulletin quoted above for newer cars. |
