Finally got myself a 1 series...
So after 3 years, I finally purchased one. Almost by luck (good and bad)
When the 1 series first came out, I wanted one bad. but never got one for some reason or another. I had a 2008 Subaru STi at the time, and with the Hatch and awd stuck it out. I have owned rwd cars and Bmws's in the past, and am fine with it in the winter, with proper tires, so it wasnt a sticking point. So over the last 15 months I have had 3 brand new cars that all got lemon lawed and repurchased (this is where the bad luck comes in! haha) So the most recent one got repurchased this week. I happened to be out on the other wise of the state, and the local porsche dealer had taken in on trade a 128i fully loaded (6 speed, sport, premium, iDrive, nav, comfort access, xenons, adaptive lights, etc, etc. ). BMW individual paint and finish (high gloss satin chrome). basically, everything I could ask for in the car. no 128's seem to be equipped this well, so I was psyched to find it. Even more so to get it for a killer price (with new tires to boot) I had thought of a 135i, since I have had many modified, high power cars (used to race two different Subaru STi's, a nissan 350z and a 330 hp toyota mr2). but in the end, I looked back, and compared it most to my E46 330ci. I like the smaller car, and it is lighter and more nimble and still quick enough (not like the 128i is slow! just slower than the 135i) so almost by accident I have a 1 series finally. If my current car (that was 4 months old and had 2100 miles on it) was not repurchased under lemon law, I would not have even looked. And even after looking, I found none even close to equipped like this (very hard to find the sport package on pre-owned 128's it seems) Now just time to tint the windows, get a bike rack on, and get some snow tires couple questions - when I got in with the comfort access, and started the car, in the info system it showed the key and battery meter. I assumed this means it is low on juice. Is it an internal battery in the remote, or is it charged when in the dash slot? - Do the 1 series allow for two sets of TPMS to be set? I know in some lexus, you can switch between two sets of tpms (for summer and winter), so you dont have to have it reprogrammed every 6 months. - and also with this, if I were not to get TPMS sensors on winter wheels, would it just have a dash light like most cars, or would it give an audible warning as well? thanks! Barry

Yes you can recharge the key fob when placed in the dash if you have the comfort access. My CA told me every couple of months when I know i'll be in the car for a longer trip to pop it in and let it recharge and i should never have a problem.
Also you can have more than one set of tpms sensors with the car. I have a winter set of wheels and a summer set. Didn't have to do anything special with them other than put on the wheels and drive. No resetting or synching or anything as long as the sensors are for the right year 1 that you have (they changed sometime in 2010). Congrats on the 1'er and hope you really enjoy her and she's trouble free for you!

IF you have comfort acess... you can only replace the battery. There is a small pannel on the key fob to remove the battery. Normal (non-CA) keys are sealed. Only the regular key gets charged while driving in the key fob slot. Its a good idea to reotate key fobs so the batteries keep charged. |

Nice car! Welcome to the club.
The comfort access in my 128 (my 135 doesn't have it) did not have rechargeable batteries. I know this because the dealer installed my taillight seal backwards and rain water got in behind the light and fried some module back there that caused the CA to go out first (after the next rain storm my whole electrical system went haywire - it's a long story but the end result being a heck of a deal on this 135 so the dealer made good on their fuck up). Anyway, first thing the dealer blamed was a dying battery in my key and told me they didn't recharge like the non CA keys so replaced the battery. |
