New to the forum.. and the 135
I Just picked up a 2008 135 steptronic with sport/premium packages.
the dealer(not a bmw dealer) couldn't tell me much about it other than it was a trade for a porsche 911 turbo. This car seems pretty quick compared to two others I drove before I bought this one, Any easy way I can find out if its been tuned? It's pretty tough to get traction through second gear in the normal drive mode(it has about 75-80% tire tread on hankook v12's) I assume traction is an issue with this car... It also holds shifts up to 7000 in the sport mode. Any thoughts??? It seems like if it could get traction it would keep up with my other car a tuned Jeep srt-8. that does 0-60 in 4.4 thanks for the help, |

It's possible that it's been tuned. if it's a flash tune, there's no real way of knowing because there's no physical evidence of it. If it's a chip, you can look either at the TMAP sensor (under and to the right of the stock airbox, feel around for a wire coming out of the underside of one of the pieces of piping under/to the right of the airbox).
Or you'd have to open up the ECU and take a look. For that, you'd have to take a look at the JB3/JB4 install guide, or the Vishnu Procede install guide (the two most common chips that you plug into the ECU) and just follow the instructions to safely open it up. If it's a recent trade-in and it has a JB4, you could also try pressing the volume down and previous track radio buttons on the steering wheel simultaneously and the JB4 menu will be activated. If you're not getting traction on the V12's in second gear, there's a pretty good chance your car is either chipped or flashed. I have the same tires and they hold traction very well compared to the stock tires. I've never driven stock on them yet, but I suspect they shouldn't be losing traction too badly if the car is stock. I'd check it out if I were you..

If it had a procede that was activated it'd do a little tach dance on the start up; it'd go to either 0, 1000, or 2000 rpm right after it fired up to show you whether you're on map 0, 1, or 2. But still, check the ecu box if you're super curious.

Thanks for the input guys...I'll be checking everything out tomorrow, I'm pretty curious.
If it's not chipped, it will be soon. Does anyone do a tune vs. chip. I like how my predator works on the jeep, (data logging and the ability to put the stock tune back when going in for service + no visible modifications). Anyone have warranty issues with the JB4? |
