Spend money on 335i or wait for M3?
I have a feeling that the 335i will not be cheap probably around 43-48k.
Would you rather spend that much on a 335i or wait and get the M3? Which is probably going to be around 52-60k? |

it matters, do you need a car right now? can you afford the price difference? you have to take all that under consideration. If it was me i would wait if i could for an m3 vert. Hope this helps!

if it was me it would be M3 all the way. i consider this one of my dream cars and dont feel the 335i is in the same class even though it is a great automobile.

I'd highly prefer the M3, but loaded, the 335i will be 45-48k, but the M3 will be 70k loaded. If you have a spare 20-25k for a better car and can wait it out, I'd go M3 all the way. Assuming you don't mind putting that much money into a depreciating asset...
With that said, I ordered the 335i as I can't wait another 12 to maybe 18 months, so my plan is have the 335i for 2-3 years, and then in late 2009, buy an early 2008 model M3 that's slightly used and hopefully it will have depreciated from 70k down to 55k or so. |

To Original Poster: Depends on your lifestyle in 2008-2009, do you foresee anything which may prevent you from getting an M3? I wouldn't stretch a budget just to get an M3 and then have insurance for example rise up in price by 1000 dollars (For the M3 or speeding etc.) and you will have to get rid of the car. If you can comfortably fit the M3 within your budget then go for it. |

Actually it will be a different level of walking experience for the next two years while you wait for the new M3. I'm third on the list at my local dealership for a 335 and intend to lease it until I can trade it on the new M3. It should bridge that gap perfectly. Was "both" one of the choices???-22

I think it's going to be more like $54,800 base for the M3 Sedan and then around $64 or $65K fully loaded. If that's indeed what it turns out to be, you can count me in. |

yip, I agree with Matsarge and Bruno. If you can afford the M3, GO FOR IT. a M3 sedan would be dreamy, practical AND fast.

no brainer.... M3.
It's not only fast but it's far more exclusive and imagine the v8 rumble. I am waiting for the M3.. only 2 options I want, Xenon and sport seats... maybe a gps |

In all due honesty, I'd hunt down a slightly used E46 M3 with the MY2005-2006 competition package (most easily identified by the beautiful 19" CSL style forged wheels). No telling what the new one is going to cost, but a couple things are probably certain:
-It's not going to be $70,000 -It's not going to be $50,000, either (I surmise mid to high $50s USD, starting) -It's going to be relatively fat and heavy, in any case. Closer to an E34 M5 than a prior M3 of any vintage. On another note: regardless of the expense, I'm really not sure I'm going to like the 335i as much as I could or should on behalf of the promising engine alone, due to a 3600 lb curb weight, lack of LSD, and the typical BMW rubbish brakes. If you ask me, this thing is going to be a lot more like the CLK touring coupe than BMW would care to admit. Wonder if the sedan will be any lighter (unlikely) and hopefully much cheaper...might cause me to change my mind. The Z4 looks increasingly appealing by the day.

I am going to yet buy another BMW this summer with a traditional Munich pick-up. Most likely I will be able to set a 335 for late July. This one will be my 7th new one from Munich. The only thing that worries me is the BMW image being subject to demolition by the US market. Spending a significant time in Munich over the years and dealing with the factory and its personnel I can only relate to a staggering number of americans that they are a laughing stock and subject of yanks jokes. It pertains to the ridiculous modifications, the hayseeds shine-looking for obnoxious chromed wheels, the declining behavior in view of easy car acquisistion by the poor and uneducated. The driving style, with the idiotic F1-assumed posistion, or an ethnically driven left arm hanging out with the moaning music blasting from a gold-chained, once a week shaven trap. What results from all this, is not so much even the perception of the need-to-modify (read screw up) americans, it is in effect the detriment of such product treatment which results in loss of value, both esthetically and financially. Many of you should take an example from the BMW users from Germany, this in no doubt would prove very educational. Then again, its the wild west, isn't it? To some hay, a BMW, thats all the same. Once a peasant is successful getting one, he just 'must" make it different and play a bavarian engineer with a catalogue at hand. What is with the stickers depicting an urinating boy? Why most BMW owners insist on always driving with the fog lights on when there is no trace of it? Why not leave it stock, the way more educated and exoerienced people have designed it and in the same process preserve the value of these great cars? How difficult is it to restrain yourselves from ruining a perfect product? It is much easier and by far less expensive to continue nose picking. People will laught at you less often. There is a simple truth in all this. If you want to improve your vehicle in any way, put the money you are goint to waste twice into a better, more expensive model from a given line.
