Software version-overall engine performance

I'm trying to get a list together of 135i engine software version numbers, and how well you feel your engine performs, in terms of power, lag, throttle response, etc...

If you've had a software update, please post when it was done and what the software version number is.

Best way to get your software version is to call your service adviser and ask them what it is. They can look up your key scan, if they scanned it at your last visit, which should have been done, so it should be in your owner file. The "SW" on the info readout between the gauges is your dash software, not the engine/vehicle software.

Let's list this way: Mine
Model: 135i
Year: 2009
Trans: MT
Build date: 5/2009 (can be found on dash readout)
HPFP failure: No
Engine software version: E89X 10-03-504

Overall performance & comparison:
When I first got my 135i power and throttle response were great, with no off the line lag.
After the software update, done around May 2010, overall power feels about the same, but a bit softer? Off the line lag is the same, meaning pretty much no lag.
Going full throttle at mid to high rpm, there is a very noticeable delay between full throttle application and when the engine finally gives full power.
There is a good "1 one thousand" count before big power comes on.
Overall throttle response is poor at higher mid-rpm engine speed.

The above SW version, 10-03-504, seems to indicate when the software was released, in my case,
March 2010, followed by the version, "504".
A version like "E89X 10-08-501" would mean it was available August 2010, version 501.
There is a number listed before my current one, which is:
E89X 09-06-510, which could be the previous SW version, but I'm not sure.

If this is the wrong way to read it, please post the correct way.

I want to get this data to see if software versions and drive-ability are linked.
I was told I have the latest software, but that might not be true, as some have said they received new software lately that is only about "1 month old".

Thanks for your help.

You said the build date was 5/09. Then you say, "After the software update, done around May 2009...."

How can you have a sw update the same month as the build date?

My bad.
Clearly it should have been 2010.
All fixed.

RPM90, I found a link for how folks can get the sw version number without having to involve the dealer..

The "SW" in that screen is for the dash software apparently.
It's not the one we want.

Just got my car back.

09 step
just got update 9/10 will look up rest of numbers tomorrow.

In Drive alone they sucked all the life out of it. really bad lag up to 2500 to 3000. Seems worse than previous

In DS seems a bit stronger than before and therefore a big change when you go from D to DS.

I would say the car in D up to 3k feels about like the heavy 530xi does and weaker if the 530 is in DS mode. Quite disappointing. Driving along with the car at 1800 rpm or so and lean into it to pick up speed and its like nothing happens. then it kicks down 2 gears or so to go.

So 60 miles later the jb3 is back in and all is well except for the 3-4 sec cranks and stumbles in the morning. been doing it for the past month, with or without tune, and the last software fix, on 3 cold starts did nothing to it. However, no codes = no pump...

Decent job on seat belt repair. You can see they were in there if you look for it, but not bad. probably will add another rattle too.
