Newbie looking at 135i

Hi All first timer here looking at BMW here. Previous Cars have been XR6T, 370Z and G6E Turbo.

Looking at getting into a AW 135i by the end of the year and will be primarily a weekend car and something I want to pamper and have fun with.

Leaning towards a MY10 onwards, reasons being N55engine (less problems?), Warranty

Cannot see me wanting to modify more than suspension, exhaust, CAI and tune. Not looking for anything extreme perhaps stopping at 280/300fwkw

Very interested on advise regarding:

1) 6sp Manual, Septronic or DCT
2) Pricing - looking at anything from brand New to 2nd hand with 15,000km max? upto $75,000
3) Anything I need to look out for when test driving a used one

Cheers

Whatever you do, don't search these forums for "HPFP".

With the tune you will probably be only around the 260-270fwkw range. CAI won't help a lot (unless it's a proper CAI), and exhaust won't help much unless it's downpipes (is that what you were talking about?)

But welcome to the forums and good luck in your search!

As far as Manual/DCT/Step goes, the DCT is excellent. Step is excellent for an auto and manual is well... manual. If you are getting N55, then pretty sure you can't get a step as they're all DCT? If it's just for the weekend, maybe look at the manual? Although from what I hear you will want to do a short shift kit, or a CDV mod.

So that more of a good reason to look at MY10.5+ as it has the N55 engine and thus wont have the HPFP issue

On contrary the N55 also has the HPFP issue just like the N54

Welcome. BMWs aren't like Fords, they don't fall apart after 12 months. Warranty is not that important (IMO). The N54 models are easier to modify, I went with an older N54 car over a new N55 car for that reason.

The N55 and N54 cars equally suffer from HPFP issues but these are overstated. If yo did get an issue, you replace the fuel pump. Ni big deal.

Exhaust and CAI do not result in any performance gains to speak of. We talk in rwkw numbers for power.

My choice would be 6MT. Just look on carsales and the like and look for the colour you want, the engine you want, the tranny you want. Or be smart and buy a pampered already modded one from a member here. Some guys are unloading their pet 135 to get into a new 1M so there are great cars to be had.

I wouldn't let the HPFP put you off. This car has its fair share of issues and most of the recent versions of HPFP seem to be lasting longer. Try to find one that has regular oil and filter changes and full service history. Tune will put you around 235rwkw, tune + FBO around 260rwkw. Nice list of previous cars, I think you will really enjoy your transition to the 135i and performance wise it is much quicker (although those turbo falcons are really quick with mods too!). The zeds look fantastic but the stock 135i puts car lengths on them in stock form.

Welcome mate.
N54 engine uses a MAP sensor whereas the N55 is MAF sensored so
much easier to unleash the power of the N54. Both are great engines so you can't go wrong. Good luck

Thanks for the welcomes.
So given I am looking at purchasing toward the end of the year. how does that fit in with the MY and the model change due in 2012.

How long does it take to build? Is it smart to end up with a MY11 Oct/Nov/Dec build? If I ask them to delay it to a 2012 it will be better for resale but I have to wait longer opinions?

I'm really hoping I can perhaps score a runout new/demo MY11, manual with at least business Nav for a great price. If I use the norm of 10% off a new one then thats $77K so you think given its end of year and with the 2012 in sight that a demo <5000km would be achievable for $70-73K?

I also am entitled to the EPP discount with my work so perhaps that can take another couple grand off? Not sure if it applies to demo's either

I think that would be a great price if you can get it - can't comment on whether you can or not as I got mind second hand!

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think the model change you are referring to is only for the hatchback (ie: no new 135i model - sedan is due a year or two later). Or were you simply referring to manufacture date 2012?

Asking about resale on any car is asking about how hard you want to get hit on the jaw, I didn't buy my car for it's trade value I bought it because it was (and still is) one of the best drives around. I think my stocks devalued less during the GFC than my car has in the past three years. And my stocks recovered, I somehow suspect the car wont unless I have a magical E82 and didn't realise it...

Tyorll is right, the coupe isn't changing to the new platform for a couple of years yet so waiting for a MY12 will do nothing for you in reality.

Good hunting mate.

Did some quick enquiries on a 135i. This is what I was told

Orders from Germany from now will go on the Oct build and be Jan delivery. It will be the new LCI model and an example of one with 6 spd, Pro Nav, Sunroof was 97K! thats 7K up from previous model. And with discount was told 88-89K. Thats 9%

I dont want the new model because the pricing is higher and the wheels look crap! they are not even M wheels --> http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=474478

Unless I can find a white 6pd 2010/2011 already in the country looks like I will be buying second hand.

Anyone know if I can have a 2nd hand car on a CHP lease and still claim its business usage.

thanks

That white car does not have M-Sport package which is why it doesn't have M wheels as you say. But for Australian market all 135i coupes come with Msport as standard so you don't need to worry about that.

That's interesting. I wonder if this will hold the value of the 135i's before the price increase. That 135i doesn't appear to be an M-Sport though and all Aus spec cars are M-Sport.

You'd have to be looking pretty hard to tell the difference LCI/Pre LCI. You can CHP a used vehicle.

The wheels on that new white 135i look horrible. I think BMW should offer an additional 5% discount for any 135i's delivered with those wheels.. Looks like a 120d.
