BMW Performance Exhaust - Trimmed

Recently received a great deal on a BMW Performance Exhaust from Dan of United BMW (here on 1addicts). The deal was because the exhaust had a small bend on one of the tips (looked like it had been dropped on the tip). I tried having the bend straighten at a muffler shop, and found it could not be done cleanly. This necessitated that I would have to trim the tip. So I decided that I would cut the exhaust at an angle which would allow installation of the standard black chrome exhaust tips.

I removed the black tips from my old exhaust and made a template by recording the angle of the exhaust pipes on a paper wrapped around the old exhaust pipe. I then transferred the angle to the BMW Performance Exhaust using the template, masking tape, & a sharpie. Note: make sure to record the top of the exhaust pipe position on the template. (See picture)

I then had the exhaust tips cut and buffed at a local custom motorcycle shop (Spooky Fast of Scottsdale, AZ). Cost $100

Once the exhaust was installed, I liked the look of the angled chrome so much I decided to not install the black chrome exhaust tips over the chrome. (see pictures)

This also solves the common issue I have read about that the BMW PE sticks out too far. (at least with the standard diffuser installed)

I also included a picture from another member who installed the black tips on his BMW PE, after cutting the pipe. Also looks very good (could not find the 1addicts link anymore)

Looks much better. I'd probably do this even if the tips were undamaged. I've always hated how far they stick out (especially on the stock non-perf diffuser)

Nice. I would do that too as I don't like the Performance tips!

Looks good, nice and subtle. Definitely better than have it sticking out. I have the Reiger diffuser on mine so it doesn't stick out so much but if I didn't I might have considered doing something like this myself.
