"Astonishing speed and mechanical grip. More confident at 150 than the GT-R, which is saying something," :headbang:

Someone's going to have to check the dosage levels again on the MT staff's meds. ; -)

If I remember correctly, wasn't there a rumor of those early mag tested cars having a bit of a "factory" tune? Something like halfa pound to a pound more boost?

Leave it to Motor Trend to usually pick the least imaginative winner. The GT-R hype deflated pretty fast - except at MT.
By the way, Nissan announced it's dropping the Launch option from future GT-Rs.

The GT-R should have won. It was by far the most expensive car in the test.

EVO (Best auto mag. out there) picked the GTR as coty as well. Like the GTR or not, it truly deserves coty.

hype deflated? the last article i read about it had it smoking a 911 and a z06 around the track. . . granted it was some time ago.

i have only seen it on the street once, and I wasn't even in america (hong kong) and the car has incredible presence.

but what this article really does, is make wish I could have swung the 135.

Those claims were lies, well gross exagerations. They did stuff to the GT-R's and gave them extra horsepower and torque then handed them out to be tested. Porsche got so pissed off with their claims, they went out and bought their own GT-R's put them to the test on Nurem..ring and never were able to meet or beat the times that the GT-R posted before it came out. It never beat the 911's time around the ring, well, not a GT-R you can go and buy from the factory anyway.

You can go back and forth all day about the "ringer" at the ring, but that changes nothing. The fact of the matter is that no other car deserves coty more than the GTR. I have driven a GTR hard (as well as gt3 rs, 911 tt) and can tell you that it is a serious car. Emotional? No. Fast as hell straight and in the turns? Yes.

People that hate on the GTR are not true car guys in my opinion. A true car guy can appreciate good things in any brand even if you would never buy one.

Hmm... Ferrari performance for 80k? I agree with MT - that’s an accomplishment that deserves recognition.

I never said it wasn't a worthy car or that I disliked it, i just pointed out that there was dishonesty from nissan. I would own and drive a GT-R any day of the week if i could afford it.

What would Porsche's incentive be to prove that the GT-R was as fast as claimed? There is none. Actually, there's quite the opposite to say the exact opposite. Porsche also claims the Ferrari 599's best 'Ring time is no faster than the CTS-V's. Pure rubbish.
If more people knew the story behind how Nissan got that time, they wouldn't be so skeptical.

Oh, yeah. It also won AutoExpress and Automobile Magazine COTY. Named co-finalist (with the 135i) as 0-60 Mag's car of the year. Car Magazine named it runner up to the LP560, but said the GT-R definitely lived up to the hype; it also placed ahead of the GT2 in both ranking and in their lap times. The length of time of the GT-R's accolades is astonishing, winning TopGear's Performance Car of the Year at this time last year (losing out to Audi's R8 for overall honors). In my lifetime, I can't remember a single car with such far-reaching impact.

Stop spreading disinformation. Porsche's exact claim was that the GT-R was using non-standard tires, not that the engine was modified in any way. Nissan gladly offered the aforementioned tires to Porsche for examination. Porsche as of yet has not responded.
