Painting stock rims

Hi all,

Has anyone painted their M Performance Rims on their 135i? I am thinking of getting them painted black. Anyone have experience with this? Perhaps you can provide me information on pricing as well?

Warm regards,

Well... I didn't paint my rims (264s) with paint but I did platidip them matte black yesterday. Turned out pretty well and you can always peel it off if you don't like it. Costed like 16 bucks and 2 hours of my time.

Most people will recommend powdercoating, and I will have to agree. I myself have used Plastidip - 4 coats black and 3 coats of Graphite Metalizer...

Just black...

Finished... Metalizer gives it more of a grey look

Problem is that Plastidip is like rubber and the edges of the rims starts to tear off first, and it creates a 'bubble' effect. Or if a rock hits it, it will tear the plastidip and still create a bubble. This is like 2-3 months after applying.

I am ultimately going to powdercoat, but it's going to be a few days of waiting and the price isn't cheap - $150 per tire...

Is the dip still on your wheels? How's it looking now?

I dipped my old car, and it held up great for 3 years. (sold the car before taking off the dip)
Never done wheels though,

I plastidipped my VW wheels. Had it on there for about 2 years with no issues. Wheels were rotated, taken on and off and the dip held up like a champ. Sold the car with the dip on it.

Dipped mine last year. Matt plus a bit of gloss clear for a nice semi gloss.

Might powder coat down the road or replace with new wheels once the tires are worn. Love how it turned out though.
