kooks , Contis or Yoko
OKay - the USD is now cactus, so I am purchasing in adavance for a new set of boots.
But i cant decide on the 3 tires below, V12 ventus Hankooks Continetals extreme contact DW Yokohama S drives I will likely retain the OE sizes and rims (although i have been inclined to look at the Hyperback SF71 RIMS) I have read the US reviews, but wouldlike any local reviews on the above tire. no personal experience with any of the above tyres. but my mate imported the conti extreme contact dw's for his clio and didnt like them as he said they didnt feel responsive enough to his inputs but did say that they gripped ok. Can personally recommend goodyear F1 Assym if you want an all round tyre. or im currently on RE11 and i actually find them a fantastic tyre in the dry and surprisingly quite ok in the wet too. also find they warm up a lot faster than kumho ku36's. feedback above is only from day to day street use. I have the S-Drives, they are ok, but Im not completely happy with them, driving my car hard so they will hurry up and need replacing :P
To me personally I felt I had more grip with the runflats

I've had a set of Hankook S1 Evo's on my car for the past year and found them to be excellent in the wet and dry, good feedback at the limit of traction too, it doesn't just let go all of a sudden.

Why not try Yoko Advan Neova AD08s - excellent grip and has better reviews than S drives. Go up to 225 front and 255 rears, since our rims are designed for that size.
Also consider Dunlop Direzza Z1 star specs, over $150 cheaper and pretty much on par with AD08s.

I have the S drives 225 / 255 and I am pretty happy with them but I came from really bald run craps so I guess anything would seem better then them. I have heard many people say that they are noisy so they probably are but I dont really notice it, maybe my music is louder then others lol. All in all how can you go wrong for $900AUD delivered?

I like my Pirelli but my tyre guy he has the Ad08s on his E55 at the moment and reckon they gives much better dry grip. Alik is trialling the Michelin Pilot Supersport, but apparently that's better than the PS2 in the dry and much better in wet - he should have his review up after his track day (I think it is today?).

I have the v12 and personally don't like them. Not very grippy at all and have to be very careful in the rain as real easy to upset the rears. And this is with just normal driving.

I've got Continental DWs that I bought from the tirerack for something like near $700 shipped to my door for a set for my 123d. Pretty happy with them. Best thing is to check tyre reviews online for a better survey.

The Contis get the best reviews, but unfortunately don't have Aussie approvals. I couldn't get a straight answer anywhere of whether they were legal or would invalidate insurance.
Cheers, Alf

So far they've been amazing. This morning, I was pushing to show my friend why the car needs an LSD and the grip is just absolutely amazing - had a really flick it to get DSC to engage. ~US$1230 landed. Definitely recommended. They are also likely to last far longer than most other tyres being discussed. |
