opinions needed after wreck

Hey guys-

So this weekend while cruising down the interstate in front of us all of a sudden this van starts spinning around out of control. It slams into us and then a Nissan Xterra rams the rear. All in all six cars involved (2 in front of the van too). Luckily no one was severely hurt...my partner had a head cut 6 staples, a concussion, lots of pain. Luckily I just had severe pain and bruising but am still so sore. Anyway, attached are some pics.. do you guys think they will total the car? 2009 128i 78k miles....heated seats and sunroof only real options.

Thanks for the opinion...btw Geico is the insurance

I had a similar issue with an old Honda Civic and Geico was my insurer. Damage was similar to your description. The car was deemed totaled, due to the damage to the engine block in the front . If it were just the rear-end damage, I was told it would not have been totaled. I think the issue is the value of the vehicle versus the cost to repair, which in my case (old vehicle, 100k miles), was lopsided. Good luck - glad nobody was severed hurt. Best wishes to your partner.

thanks for the well wishes guys...hopefully it will be totaled, and I just want to say if you guys are ever offered the GAP insurance through BMW FS it is the best deal...it will even cover your deductible from other insurance in case of a total up to $1000 according to my policy...best $500 spent

OP: From experience I can tell you that your car is totalled and then some.
Good to hear that you and your partner didn't sustain more serious injuries.
BTW, you wouldn't want them to fix it anyway as the value of a repaired vehicle with that kind of damage will drop by at least $6K compared to the same vehicle which is accident free.

Im still amazed how well the cockpits hold up in these cars. Looks like a pretty good collision and it doesn't even look like it got much past the front crumple zone.

No kidding that's an observation i always noticed when looking at 1er's in accident, passenger cabin holds up very well.

That much rear end damage probably means the rear tray is damaged which isn't a repairable. Have them look closely at the area around the battery well and towards the body section where the back seats start. Deformation in that area equals a totaled car.
