OT - Next car I8 coupe

Crew,

I'm going green and hope to have one of these on order as soon as they release the price list - Electric drive 260kw is tough enough.

I would definitely want to try one before commiting that kind of money. It's still not that much efficient to run an electric car compared to gasoline. Especially in the north, where we have real winter, electric cars aren't apealing at all. The problems from it are not worth the hassles imho. Then again... my next car will be an LS1 E36 if all goes according to plan.

My guess is this will cost minimum 300k. Probably closer to 500k here in Australia.

If you want to go green, it would be better to catch public transport.

Personally I love it and wouldn't mind moving on to it after current car. There should be enough speed, and the fuel economy will make a welcome change. Also reckon it looks effing fantastic.

I don't want to turn this into a discussion of electric vs. hydrogen vs. hybrid because I don't think that's the reason you made this thread. Having said that though, if you are a believer in electric vehicles and must own one, i'd recommend waiting until the second or 3rd generation of them.

There are still many issues to iron out, batteries are expensive, heavy and deteriorate over time. You also need to consider the distance you will want to travel in the vehicle and whether it's range is suitable. I'm not sure if you've ever owned a laptop but consider that just like a laptop, the amount of electricity (and thus the range) will decrease slowly throughout it's life. Are you also going to have this as your primary vehicle or will it be a secondary vehicle? What happens if you need to travel more than expected 1 day or weekend?

Personally, I'll be waiting for hydrogen. Electricity feels clean but the mainstream ways of creating it are far from clean and "environmentally friendly"

Edit: I just realised that the vehicle is a hybrid. Might need to disregard a couple of my points made.

Don't get me started on Public Transport. There was a study done recently that shows that train travel causes more damage to the environment and uses more energy PER PERSON than 1 person in a Range Rover...

The push for people to use public transport is because it uses less PETROLEUM than private...

I can't find the Study at the moment but I do have a copy of it somewhere and I'll post it when I find it...

Also of interest is that owning a MEDIUM SIZED DOG has a higher Carbon Footprint than owning a TOYOTA LAND CRUISER...

^^ Dec I'd also be waiting until hydrogen powered cars are more accessible. The thing I don't get about electric cars is that you still need to charge them from a plug point right? And.. where does that power come from... Most likely just from fossil fuels.. So we're just creating another problem for ourselves.

Just googled it.. apparently a good hamster maxes out at 4mph. Maybe it will be faster with meth injection.

The other meth.
