Shift knob from Bimmian
Has anyone bought the new shift knob, and if so, what are your thoughts?

That shifter looks a bit out of place in an E82/90

Bimmian upgrade gearshift knob for steptronic
Quote:
Fitting can be an issue, as this story indicates: Because it is a RHD car, I did the work from the passenger's side of the car. I used a screwdriver type pry bar and suitably covered wooden block to pop the OEM gear nob (it's a PITA to get off otherwise) and a nylon panel tool to remove the console and installed the updated gear knob with the wiring harness for the illuminated version. However, I had to get out of the car and go around to the driver's side to start the car. By opening the doors, I confused the P-BUS system. To reset (reboot) the P-BUS system, I left a door open until the interior lights went out after about 16 minutes. Then, I shut the door(s) and locked the car. At this time, the gearshift console PARK LIGHT was still ON. After about 25 minutes, the console light went out and the system now operates normally. So, if yours is a RHD BMW, have someone else sit in the drivers side so you can start the car and put it in park before opening the passenger side door ... or you will need to go through the reset process again. Disconnecting the battery before doing the installation and with the car in NEUTRAL would also overcome the problem (making sure to prop your boot open). So, in short, while the C-BUS system was happy and showed no errors, I confused the P-BUS system which was not closing down because it thought a door was open.
