Using the "M" button during runin period

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I just picked up AW 1M on Tuesday and the dealer told me not to use the M Dynamic Mode during the runin period, but I can't find anywhere in the manual tell supports this. I couldn't resist, so I tried it yesterday and imo it makes the car so much more responsive, I want to keep using it. Anybody have any thoughts on this?

There was another thread about this recently.. a fellow somehow made it all the way to 1200 miles without using MDM. I was amazed as his restraint. It seems unnecessary

Coming from a 135 I think it should be easy. To 135 owners its basically the same car, especially tuned 135 owners. New owners may find it harder to resist.

I guess we will know in a few weeks

I don't think using the M mode is a problem, is more of the WOT that they don't want you to do.

I used it from day one. You're fine as long as you don't go WOT. Pressing the M button encourages speed so just be careful not to go past 5k revs and keep from mashing peddle. This of course is per the manual.

can't see how the use of MDM which allows some tail drift before DSC cuts in would be a concern during run in. M 'throttle response' button may be a different issue.

My bad...I meant the "M" button of the wheel, I thought that was M Dynamic Mode.

Their is no issue using the M button. So long as you keep the revs and speed in check as per the manual.

I intend on pressing my M-Button as I prefer the way the throttle feels. However I'll just use very gentle throttle (1/4 or 1/2) and not take it over 5500rpm

That was me. My thread here http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=565330

It was following advice from my dealer.

I now have 8000 km on the 1M and used the M button from day one and havent had any problems .... Even during the break-in period i went occasionally WOT and thats just fine imo. I did it gradually towards the end of the break . I am now tuned with ESS since 7000 km and its awesome. its a car , not a piano.....

I would kill to be in your position rather than mine

As you may already know, Australia's initial 100 vehicles were taken up quickly but we have since been allocated another 100 with April/May delivery? I missed out in the first round but have now signed for one in April. Lucky.

The wait is indeed tough

I've pushed the M-Button, immediately! I asked my dealer,, and he said, that there will be, no problem about this!
I've always respected, to stay under 5500 rpm, and 170km/h, during the first 1200 miles!

I'm still in the run-in period, but I have a routine every time I enter the car: clutch, brake, starter; m button, mdm.

The electronics just change the behaviour of the controls and car, they don't affect how you treat it.

Just imagine that the car was built with a more forgiving TC and with a sharper throttle - that's all the two buttons do.

So: no mashing the throttle, and nothing above 4k revs (I'm being cautious). No reason to do otherwise...

+1. Yup!

And do not exceed 170 kph (105 mph) until after 2K kms (or 1,200 miles). No WOT and ALWAYS varry your engine speed. Never stay at a constant speed or rpm.

Then AFTER 2K kms, try increasing the rpms gradually in 500 rpm incriments. I also like to do alot of high rpm engine braking(in gear), to encourage the rings and valves to break in under vacuum.
