BMW Sunshade (front)
Is anyone using this thing? Is there any reason why it's better than one of the generic reflective ones you can pick up from any auto parts store? Is the fitment that much better? Thanks in advance for you r opinions...

I got a Covercraft UVS100 Heat Shield with storage bag. It's a perfect fit and I like the rigid design (as opposed to the roll up type).
I felt that the BMW heat shield with the big "BMW" logo on it was a little bit too much "in your face"....but that's just my opinion.

I didn't like the design or the price of the BMW version so I went with one from Bavarian. It is made similar to the one I have in my SUV. The outer surface is reflective and it rolls up and is secured with a velcro strap that is sewn into the reflector. I've had it for nearly a year now and it still works well. They were on sale last time I went to the Bavarian web site. The BMW one does not look as reflective to me.

The Bavarian seem to be made the same as the heat shield - perhaps that is who makes it. This is the link for heat shield:
http://www.heatshieldstore.com/catal...roducts_id=116 I have this brand in my SUV and have used it for several years in SC and it is holding up well. I replaced a different roll up with the heat shield in my SUV and the other brand, a generic from Wall Mart or something, did not hold up. The heat shield is stiffer so it does not collapse when it gets hot - at least so far. The heat shield version was also $35 + shipping - looks like a good deal to me. But I have no problem with somebody preferring something else. Jim

I have the BMW one, and when new it's a real pain to fit. I had the BMW one on my e46 as well, and it held up great. However, over time it wore the airbag stickers off the visors which looked messy. The silver side is not shiny, it's more of a matte silver. I agree that the BMW lettering is a bit much, I'd prefer it didn't have it.
I would say the roll up kind that's softer would give you less chance of damaging anything in the interior. Swinging the bmw one around to put it back in it's bag is a bit of a mess. The new one has 'broken in' a bit now and fits easier. I'm happy with it overall though. |

I have the electronic steering wheel and when the temperature in the wheel exceeds 140 degrees F, the display will not turn on. And I always turn on the display after starting the car because I like to see the water and oil temp. In the summer time, it will take many miles (15-20 minutes) of A/C until the steering wheel will turn on. Now with the UVS100 sunshade, it turns on immediately, even after the car has sat in the sun all day. Last edited by jkoral; 08-08-2015 at 06:22 AM.. |

I have the BMW one. It's okay and does its job. I personally find BMW's sunshade for the 1er sucky compared to Merc's and Range/Land Rover's. It's a bit too short (vertically) that the sun visors barely hold it in place. The stitching can do with a bit of quality but it might've been due to my carelessness for the product.
The BMW sunshade for the E89 suffers the same issue but much less apparent than the E82 ones. The E30 sunshade is a bit short (horizontally). |

I am using a BMW one that was given to me by my buddy that was for an e92. It works well enough. A little too much gap under the rearview mirror for my taste, but it was free.

Hm, I'd be worried about scratching the tint on my windshield. Can anyone comment on that for the BMW, or the other aftermarket ones?

I think mine is the covercraft. It looks the same and has that black band in the corner (not near my car right now). It works pretty well but it's too short.

I've always shelled out $50 to get the genuine BMW sunshade for nearly all of my 5 previous BMWs. The fitment is perfect and it does a nice job of keeping the car cool. I got lucky with my 1 series, because my E36 M3 sunshade fit perfectly!

I swear by the Intro-Tech Ultimate Reflector
http://www.autoanything.com/driving-...A5833A0A0.aspx It's custom-cut for your car and very reflective. Basically shiny mylar-like outside surface that's very durable, sturdy cardboard air barrier, then a soft felt backing. It folds up very well and fit's snugly in the windshield. When it's not in use, it gets stored folded in either the passenger or backseat foot-well for easy grabbing. Makes 100F days much more bearable! I've used it for over 2 years and it still feels practically brand new.

I use one I bought from Bavarian Autosport. It appears to be same to the BMW one without the logo. Shiny side out for summer and shiny side in for winter.

My Bavarian sunshade is still working fine after ~6 years use. It doesn't scratch the windshield but I don't have tint on the windshield. It's all plastic or fabric so I don't think it would scratch anything.
