I tell you what. I bet I can have that badge reproduced or find it on ebay for a couple of dollars.
There is only one authentic one on EBAY right now for 70 dollars, and Dinan doesn't make you pay for it, they send it to your local Dinan Dealer free of charge. Dinan-badged BMW's are something that can't be faked (at least not with regularity), which is nice, because if I see another AMG badged CLS500 merc, i think i'll puke.

^^^Thats not the point. I agree that non-Dinan tuned cars shouldn't wear the badge but it the money you have to spend to get there is the problem. If i buy a $2000 software tune I feel I should be able to advertize for them.

I only have a mild modification on my 335i - JuiceBox S1 worth maybe 20-30RWHP - but in my opinion the 335 suspension is already not sufficient. Come to think about it, it was like that even with the stock ECU.

I truly hope the 135i is better sorted. Everyone thinking about letting their Caymans or 911s go for this, should first give it a serious evaluation - without the salesman in the car. Unless you are planning about modifying it of course...

I don't really mind spending another $2k for suspension mods, but finding the right one takes a long time, many searches, and lots of experimentation. :iono:

Our sales guy suggested that rather than getting an M version (or tii) of the 1-series, we should seriously consider buying a 135i with a Dinan software upgrade. He said the upgrade costs $2000, matches the BMW warranty and can be serviced by our dealership. The results are impressive: 384 horsepower (@ 5700 RPM) and 421 lb/ft of torque (@4300 RPM). So, for around $40,000, I can get a great-looking BMW that will perform comparably to a new M3 ($60,000). Amazing -- I might actually get rid of my Cayman for one. Any thoughts?

By the way, the 1-series brochure does not include the "lemon" interior; instead, it has "taupe."
What is "around" $40,000? The best price I could get on a barebones 0 options 135i is about $39,500 OTD... which is just about straight MSRP with 0 options.

I thought the same thing, onehots2k. I assume that the OTD (out the door) qualifier means fees (documentation, MACO), taxes, and title as well.

That's usually what OTD means. It's the final "out the door" cost of the car with fees and taxes.

OTD is pretty standard for meaning Out The Door. Which is what you end up paying out of pocket when you walk out the door!

This was at the flywheel. The car tested also put out higher hp numbers than normal However, from the dynos posted on another forum, The Dinan Tune is producing just over 50 WHP over stock. This is at just over 13 psi of boost.

Dinan is also working on a Stage 2, which will include another flash(providing more boost) and an upgraded intercooler. Hopefully this will also be available for the 135i.

"Badges? We don't need no stinkin' badges."

I like the option of ordering a car without any badges. Years ago I had a new (Euro) 323i and got it without the "323i", this at a time when people were buying "M" badges and tacking them on their 325e. - George

I ownd a 1999 Z3 2.8 that had 11 Dinan points. Before they sent me the badge I had to prove with photos & recepts that the car was indeed a 10+ point car & then had to sign a document that I would install the badge on the car, not sell the badge & if I sell the car to notify Danin with the new owers name. They take the badged cars VERY seriously. I regret to this day selling that car, it was the most fun car I ever owned!

Nice car. Wasn't the 1999 Z3 one of the only non-M cars that came with a factory LSD, since the early e36s?

Yes sir...the entire rear of that car was ///M roadster. The oct98+ 2.8 Z3 were an interesting mix of ///M stuff. It was a marvel to drive...I was a beta tester for a never released 2.8 double vanos throttle body for Dinan. With their stg 3 software it made 208 at the rear wheels & 198 flt lbs. It was a hoot!

That is a beautiful sleeper badge though, i mean when you think about it, the car can look normal-ish with that badge being the only sign that it is stacked.

Well, very true, but like it has been said, I think its kinda unfair BUT I was looking at the point system, and if you get a suspension, the computer tune, and let say and exhaust, you get enough points, which are mods most people do, NOW that bieng said, In my opinion, thier parts are a bit OVERpriced but hey, you pay for quality...Although I hear a lot of fuzz about whether BMW honors them or they dont and the Warranty issue. Anyone figure that out yet???
