Tentative info says 08' as development is a bit further along in the chassis development(thanks to Holden, GM's awesome, hardcore RWD program leader). Earlier it was said that 09' would be the cars release, but it's anyone's guess at the moment. GM knows the public wants it, so it will come, soon.

I saw the Camaro at the L.A. Car Show. IF the production vehicle holds true to the concept, then yes, I'd buy it. I'm talking strictly sheet metal here. Seeing it in person really was awesome.

I think it's damn cool and I like the interior too. Maybe by '09 the GM interiors will be improved.

Maybe by '09 GM itself will be vastly improved!

By 2009 I'll be at about 180,000kms (off warranty), so I'll be shopping!!

Uh, GM puts that engine in several cars. It is in the Pontiac GTO and the SSR, that ugly truck thing they sell.

Not at all. He said they couldn't put the engine in the Camaro because it is in the Corvette, and I pointed out that they were already putting it in several other cars including the GTO which will basically be the Pontiac equivalent of the Camaro as far as which segment they compete in. Not to mention the fact that the previous generation Camaro had the same engine as that generation's Corvette.

I am wondering will it be able to compete with the challenger
being that it has more hp and the body maybe lighter due to the excess amt. of cf.

Don't think it's lighter per say. However this car should have the tech to run w/ "the best of the best" (per Bob Lutz). This car will more than compete w/ the Challenger, it will trounce it. Especially considering that there will be an SS version.

The Challenger has a 425hp Hemi. I doubt the Camaro will come with more power than that.

Regardless of what new engine is developed, it is highly unlikely they will offer more hp than the Corvette in the Camaro. More likely will be that the Camaro will use the same engine as the Corvette with a more restrictive intake and exhaust, and will probably make around 25 less hp.

Nope. By the time the Camaro is out, the so called "Blue Devil" Vette will be out and running, w/ 700hp in talk, it's likely the current Z06's engine would be refined for more power to make space for a Camaro SS. I'd say tops for a Camaro SS in HP would be around 450, and that's w/out the carbon fiber body panels you'll find on the Z06.
