Seat belt issues

Anyone elses seat belt get twisted a lot?

I dont know what i'm doing wrong but it always gets tangled. This morning I had to spend 10 minutes un-doing the tangle so I could put the belt on.

Or am I just an idiot that can't use a seat belt correctly?

Wow - I've never had that problem. Or ever heard about anyone ever having that problem, in any car. Where is it getting tangled? Is it not fully retracting?

I've heard that the 3 Series cars have these little plastic bits that extend out from the B-pillar and sort of "stage" the seatbelt clips within easy reach. I've wondered if the same kind of thing is available for the 1er. That might help your problem. I'm not out of shape or decrepit or anything, but I always feel like I'm contorting to reach the seatbelt.

it gets tangled up at the hinge and i then can't pull it out any further.

so i have to get a knife and un-do where the belt has folded over causing it to stick

Never had that problem. Maybe you want to have that looked at. Be careful with the knife though - if its any good, it will slice that belt like butter. I doubt that the warranty will cover that

If by "hinge" you mean the retractor roller opening at the top - mine gets twisted there too. PIA. Plus I'm not used to a 2 door and hate reaching wwwaaayyy back to grab the belt so I bought the BMW issue seat belt holder that attaches to the headrest supports. It keeps the retracted belt right at the side of the seat. Nice in theory but the thing is made so cheaply that it keeps getting unhinged at its bendable joint. I always have to pop it back into place. Another PIA.

This happens a lot to me! I pull the seat belt out towards me with a bit of force which seems to do the trick. Used to untangle it gently but ended up being there for ages! This shouldn't happen, it's a very poor design flaw in the 1er!

i feel i have to reach too far down to get the belt. i wish there was something that held the belt at the side of the seat up by the shoulder. i looked at the new infiniti convert and it had such a feature. was nice to have, car didn't impress me that much.

I don't mean to jack this thread, but on a related note, has anyone else had a problem with the bottom strap of the seat belt being too tight around your stomach/waist area? It seems like no matter how I position the seat, the belt gets too tight and bothers me. I find myself constantly tugging at it to loosen it up. I even tried taking off the little plastic clip at the front of the metal slide bar where the belt attaches to the floor, thinking this would make it slide forward a bit further and give it some more play, but it didn't help much. Anyway, it's really annoying!

BTW, I'm 6' 4" and about 185 pds, so I don't think the problem is that my stomach sticks out too far!
