BMW Dealers Loaner Policy
Any OP knows which is exactly BMW's dealers policy in providind a loaner car when my car is in service? My dealer advised today that they changed their loaner policy to provide a loaner only after the car is in service for, or after (5) days, not a day before. They said they switched from BMW's policy to the local goverments consumer protection agency loaner policy.I believe thats absurd and goes against BMW's factory practices. I am thinking of calling BMW'North America and blowing the whistle on these suckers.

I've been told locally that I wouldn't get a loaner for a two day service. When I got there, they ended up finding a CPO on the lot that they let me take...point being, they we're serious about denying my a loaner so I believe it's up to the dealer.
Did you buy your car there? If so, find the rep you purchased from and express the desire for a loaner to be a happy customer and I'm confident you can make good ground.

I would call, likely however if they are the only dealer around then you still might not get very far.
Mine offers a rental from the dealer that i bought it from. I think i have let them know enough times that the next sell depends on it.

loaner policies 100% at the discretion of the dealer so find one with a generous policy!

depends entirely on the dealer. i've been fairly lucky so far that service during the week nets a loaner (not on the weekend for some odd reason) and when i've had my car in for work (elective) i got a loaner while the work was going on

My dealer just schedules them. If you want a loaner and they have one when your work is to be done, you get a loaner. I've had them for one day before. I did it just to make it easier for me - the dealer is on the other side of town. When you do not get a loaner, they will drop you off and pick you up. That isn't bad for me because I have another vehicle. They are OK from this standpoint.

Agree with those saying it's at the dealer's discretion. Mine gave me a loaner for everything (2hr oil changes, two week stays, etc) but I had to book it well ahead of time. When my pump failed, I had to wait a few days for one to become available and by the time it did, my car was ready.

Yes. Other than an oil change I haven't had any service done on my BMW so I don't know what the dealer's policy is yet. But at the Acura dealer if you wanted a loaner you needed to let them when when you booked the appointment. So they would look to see when they had an available time slot to do the work and when a loaner was available, so you might have to wait longer to get an appointment as they only had so many loaners.
One time they had no loaners the parts manager said I could have his car (a TL-S) for the day. Apparently the parts manager got a "company" car, which kind of shocked me and might help explain the obscene hourly rates at the dealer.

That's one of the great things about living in so cal. There are so many dealerships and the service dept is the real profit center that they would probably blow you to keep you doing service there. I've been asked if I needed a loaner on routine maintenance stuff. I've been offered free food from the snack bar when I've had to wait for 20 or 30 minutes too.

I always get a loaner, regardless of the service. They usually have one waiting for me when I drop off ther car if its scheduled...even if its not, I don't wait more than 10 minutes to get the loaner. Btw, it's always another bmw.
