if BMW is able to produce a 3l twin turbo diesel with 306hp nowadays, than an all out M-Division effort to get 335hp from a 3l twin turbo gasoline engine still seems to fall somewhat short, IMO. The torque comparison between the two engines aforementioned, makes it even worse..... |

How is the 1M not an M?
All the M cars (except the M1) have been modified versions of their normal BMW models, since the creation of the E30 M3. 1M is following directly from the roots of E30 M3. Wider tracks, M suspension, the higher output engine. It's a proper M car if you ask me.

The 1M and M3 GTS is two cars not made when the 1-series or 3-series was getting made.
Thatīs the difference to letīs say a M3 CSL, M3 E46, M3 E92. All of those were on the drawing board the same day their little brothers was on the drawing board. Same with BMW performance. And since the GTS and 1M are models made after the 3 series or 1-series was created it could explain the bittersweet taste journalists have had with both cars. Of course they are terrific cars but none of them was thought of since the beginning. I think thatīs what makes a difference in the end. |

Did you really expect a 1M with 400+hp? They can do it, but did anyone really think they would? |
