First off, thanks for all the input everyone on this thread. It helped me to decide to change my H8 bulbs on my own, saving me $$! I installed the Phillips 5000k.

I was a bit wary of doing it myself because of all the horror stories about getting the covers and clips reattached after installing the new bulbs. I was able to get my mindset ready for frustration which actually made the reattachment of the cover and "bitch" clips much easier than I had anticipated. The passenger side was certainly a struggle at first (the driver side was easy - got the cover/clips on the first try) until I realized the bottom of the plastic cover mates into a particular hole so it would fit snuggly, enabling the clips to snap into place.

8500k's are slightly blueish. I figure 7500k's coded should be perfect! Will post back once my bluetooth adapter arrives.

My buddy ('11 135i) and I ('09 128i vert) installed the Philips Diamond Vision 6000k H8 bulbs relatively easily. He also installed the H4 bulbs for his AHL turning lights which were even easier to install. My driver side bulb was more difficult since we have different engine compartments, I had to remove the air filter box to gain access to the headlamp assembly cover.

It took about the same amount of time to install the bulbs as it did his blacklines, less than 30 minutes. If you have thick fingers, good luck! We couldn't be bothered with LED conversion kit install and fault code issues, but at least our lights aren't piss yellow anymore. I'm also waiting for my Bluetooth adapter from eBay so I can code the corona rings brighter with BMWhat.

Have not. But Osram is a reputable brand, so little risk in trying them out.

Anyone have tips on getting the passenger bulb to set in correctly? Mine will not pop in and slide down like the drivers side?

Has anyone put the bulb in first and then plugged in the DRL/angel eye wire afterwards? This is driving me crazy, especially when the drivers side looks great and the passenger side is only half a ring.

It's an absolute nightmare. I pray I sell the car before one of the bulbs burn out.

It's not that bad. Just make sure you completely remove the cover so you have some room to work. Sometimes you have to fiddle with the bulbs so they'll rotate into place. Also when putting the cover back on don't be afraid to put a little pressure on the back of the assembly.

Dude I tried wiggling the bulb back and forth for almost a half an hour. I've kinda gotten the hang of the covers but the damn bulb will not set right, driving me crazy.

I got these and they look dimmer than my 6 years old OEM bulbs. But both the driver and passenger side rings look similar in brightness. is it the way it should be, or did I manage to install both the left and right side wrong?

I doubt you did anything wrong, it could really just be the bulb you chose.

I thought a whole bunch of people here bought the Philips 5000k and were satisfied with the brightness, etc?

FYI I bought these and to my eye they look just as yellow as the OEM bulbs they replaced. not cool, not blue, not intense.

The whole problem with halogen bulbs, as opposed to using LEDs in the angel eyes, is they dim when the head lamps are turned on. This in turn causes the brightness and color to darken, which brings back the yellow color, unfortunately.

I went with some good 4800k lights, which look decent when only running them as DRL's, but as soon as I flip my head lamps on, they dim and turn yellow'ish.

Guys - LED's are going to be the only way to go if you want them to be 'white' all the time. Which sucks, because they are typically 2-3 times more the cost.

I'm in the same boat, I ordered those a few weeks ago and have yet to install/open them (may be able to return still). What are the other Philips 5000k? Or is it just different packaging?

I think it's just different packaging.

The bulb seems a little brighter and bluer after it gets burned in for 2 weeks. But it's still yellowish compared to the Xenon, and dim compared to the OEM yellowish color toned bulbs.

Digging up an old thread but does anyone have any input on the reliability of the precious or diamond white bulbs? Getting ready to make the switch but not a job I want to do every year.
