Would you drive your 135i from ADL to DRW?
Gang,
(lurker and reader, never the poster) Im contemplating driving my 135i from Adelaide to Darwin next year so I can have a taste of those open speed limit areas. The plan is to put it back on the train after my time in Darwin is finished. Would you do it yourself with your car? if No, why not? What considerations would be required in doing this trip? (a 135i is more of a city car, not a cross-the-nullabor type of car). so far my considerations are: -red dust. need to replace filters upon return -spare tyres wisdom/advice is now sought. |

Do it.
I did it from Sydney to Melbourne to Adelaide then up to Darwin in a 335. I was getting around 800km when it was stock so fuel wasn't an issue that time. But take a20l just incase. I ran out In my Hilux about 40km from cooberpeedy. Open speed limits are below Alice Springs but might be opening up in other spots, I'm not sure where. But you can save yourself 1500km just staying in Alice Springs. |

Watch out for roos around dusk and dawn. Try to work in a Hidden Valley track day too. Great track. Much more fun than going fast in a straight line on the highway.
