Does N54 Dinan Stage 2 raise redline limiter to 7400?
Can anyone with a Dinan Stage II tune confirm whether their redline is 7400rpm or stock 7000?
I've read some posts on other non-E82 forums that it's 7400, but nothing on Dinancars.com. Thx

Yeah, on N54s and N55s the horsepower curve with stock turbos is falling really fast above 6k rpm, with a tune or tuneless, the only thing you will get above 7k is engine damage.

i was thinking of it more as a way to determine if the dealer put the Dinan tune back in after a recent service visit. Something's not right, but i can't prove anything.

Do you have a boost gage? Boost should be about 15 to 16 psi boost with dinan stage II. I had a dealer do same thing after a software update

No, i don't have a boost gauge installed. If the rev limiter idea doesn't work, next i'm going to call Dinan and ask if they know when the last time the dealer downloaded the software for my car. If they won't or don't know, the boost gauge would be an option.
Does anyone know what software rev is current for Dinan?

1) Asked the dealer if they remembered to flash the car back? Sorry, obvious question but I didn't see any mention of it. 2) Tried calling Dinan? Every time I've had mine reflashed, Dinan has had to be contacted to confirm the flash. Perhaps they'll have a record of this? 3) The difference between stock and Dinan 2 is massive. If the flash wasn't on the car at all, I'd think it'd be extremely apparent. 4) Do you have an after market FMIC? The dealer may have forgotten to check off the "FMIC" box when reloading the software. It's only supposed to be available to cars with better than stock FMIC, and makes quite a difference compared to the normal flash. Edit: I've got it! Go casually take the car for a spin, see if it does over 150mph... If it works you know you're flashed! **Please don't*** |

Thanks milocher, I've looked through my entire car's service history. I see the replaced HPFP, replaced injectors, the purchase of Dinan's software, but there's no where i see a specific labor line item for installing the software. Not sure that it exists, they didn't exactly say they put it back in, they just said, "yea you have Dinan software". So they are not answering the question.
I'm headed back into the dealer tomorrow. Dinan isn't open on Saturday, afaik, but i will ask the dealer to report the version installed in the car. Last time i did this, they gave me the run around, because i don't know what question to ask or what to tell them to do, to give me the information. Do i ask for a print out of the BMW analyzer report on the engine? Somewhere on the 'net it says that print out would have the "BMW software version on the left and the Dinan on the right". I don't really have proof of that urban legend, but would like some. See, you want to do the 150 limiter idea, i just wanted to redline the thing to 7400 rpm.

Resolved. Emailed Dinan, they gave me the full scope on download history. The dealer was pretty good, i told the service rep what was going on. He got the Dinan rep into hook up a computer to the engine - they reflashed it, even though the software was installed.
Whatever, the result according to Torque on my Android, is an extra 50hp and 50ft/lb of torque. It's not a dyno, but it did compare 2nd and 3rd gear pulls on my way to the dealer and my way home after the reflash. 50hp. nice.
