Gill at Tirerack said 225/45/17" Dunlop D3 snows would be perfect for snow. The rec. 205/50/17" will be a little better in deep snow, but the 225/45/17" will handle better on dry roads. I was going to get 205/50/17", but the 225/45/17" will perform better and look better on dry roads, but still do great in the snow.
ALL-RIGHTY-THEN. If you drive in DEEP snow alot AND ICE alot get Q-rated. If you drive in snow less often, get the V-rated. Q-rated snows feel like your driving on Jello. The cars rear will wag all over the place. I hate them. I am getting V-rated performance snows. ALL-RIGHTY-THEN. |

I had a vague notion that the run flats were going to be an issue in cold, dry weather based on it being illegal to run summer tires in the cold in Germany. Still, this thread cleared that up. Looks like I'm out $1500 for a set of winter rims and V rated Blizzaks or Dunlops in 17". Thanks for all the good info.. In the New Mexico mountains now but I'm originally from the Texas coast and we never held winter there. Your collective insight is valuable to a lot of us.
