Interesting cellphone cradle problem

So I got the cell phone adapter and base plate for my Motorola V710. I was in the middle of a conversation and the phone died. I checked and it was because of low batt. I thought the phone cradle was supposed to charge the phone if the phone was docked.

Anyone?

The cradle only charges when the car is running. If you have a low battery to begin with, using bluetooth might use more juice than the charger can deliver back to the battery.

So if I have a low batt, the bluetooth draws more current than the cradle charger puts in?

Also, the car was running during the conversation.

It might not have been connected properly, or the phone wasn't properly inserted into the cradle.
Try putting your phone in, and moving it...or placing it so that the phone idicates to you that it is charging...or take it back

Yep, no matter how I insert the cellphone it never indicates it is charging. Think I'll have to go back.

The wire connection is right under the parking-brake boot...you simply unsnap (carefully) the leather boot from the console and the connections are in there. Mine charges, but I have no antenna reception...

My cradle charges fine, but the instant I plug the phone completely into the cradle I lose all my signal strength. I guess I'll be going back to the dealer too.

I'm going to swing by there today...my guess is there's a connection loose in the trunk.

For the signal guys , ask your dealer to check the antenna wire is actually connected to the fin

Onthe 5 Series when it came out they forgot to put on the instructions that the antenna cable wasnt connected from the factory and guys had no signal.
Connecting the wire fixed it

Will do!
Is there any way I can check this myself? They just had the car for a week and only 1/2 the things were fixed. Does the cover pop off?

Ok,apparently its not easy

There are 4 connections

1)wire to fin
2)wire to telephone control unit
3)wire from telephone control unit
4)wire into cradle dock

They reccomend you dont touch anything if you dont know what you are doing

The easiest one is the wire from the docking cradle somewhere behind the hand brake (emergency brake) leather cover
There should be 2 connectors from the cradle and both must be pluged in ( smaller one is antenna )

It does seem that its best left to a trained tech to check it

OK, I know the one in behind the handbrake is connected, because I connected it myself...the TCU is under the trunk carpeting, and all plugs seem to be attached securely...and I removed the small cover by the CHMSL in the rear of the roof and saw that plug connected to what appears to be a base unit for the fin. So I guess it's going to be up to the dealer techs to look into it.

So did you install it ? ( since you pluged in the cable yourself )

maybe it needs coding

I did install the eject box/snap-in myself. Do you think it would require coding to receive an antenna signal?

Just thinking of possibilities, maybe the TCU needs to be switched on or something

I havent seen any installation instructions for these yet, so dont know exactly what has to be done.
Ill try and get soe, but it could take a few days at least

Thanks so much! I installed a complete BT retrofit kit on my X5, so I figured this would be easy--since my car has BT standard. Now I only get a signal when my car is right under a phone tower
