Aus real BMW Performance Exhaust approx. A$1200

Just a feeler for how many would be prepared to pay approx A$1200-A$1300 for the 135i BMW Performance exhaust.

My plan is the get a shipment of 4 PE's via sea freight as the shipping costs by sea for one is basically the same as for 4 as the shipment size is less than 1 cbm. 4 x PE's are 0.959 cbm. At 1 cbm it goes up so keeping to 4 allows the shipping costs to be inexpensive when split.

Have checked the box size and weight to come up with the price. Shipping would however be probably 6-8 weeks, but I've waited this long, I'm not really concerned about waiting a bit longer.

The landed cost to have a single BMW PE shipped to Aus via Air is A$2000 so the saving is between A$700-A$800 per unit going this route.

The above of course is based around the current US/AUS exchange rate.

How loud are they? how much power gain do you get from them? is it a full system or just a cat back?

It's a catback. The axleback version is the 125i. The 135i does away with the resonator. Here are some pictures below that Dan from United took.
There are quite a number of Youtube videos of the BMW PE as well as a number of threads including this one.

http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=226367&highlight=performance+exha ust+regrets

Listen to the videos. I like the sound and it does not seem to be too loud. It's the real BMW performance part don't forget and strange as it may seem, Australia is the only country that I know of where BMW do not import it. Even BMW New Zealand sell it, be it at NZ$2320 I was quoted.

Tim, I like the Cp-e as well, but I cannot justify the additional cost. Am really looking forward to hearing your Cp-e on the September drive if you are going.

Exhaust notes are such a personal thing, just like music I guess...

I might be interested. But how do you join the Y section to the OEM part? There is no flanges. Doesn't need to be welded on does it?

I would like to get it, but just concerned that I would have to cut the OEM exhaust and weld it on. come selling time I would have to do the same again. Anyway, still interested.

Yes you do have to cut it, but there is no welding. It comes with a flange ends and clamps marked by the green circles in this photo so you can reinstall the original exhaust if you want. Any catback or axleback you are going to have to cut anyway.

The Cp-e is my personal fav...let us know how it sounds. But $2k++ is way too much for an exhaust for this car...thats nearly 3% of the car price!

I'd be interested to acquire now at this more reasonable price for install after my warranty expires.

It won't affect your warranty at all. It's a genuine BMW component for this car.

Agreed it is genuine, but it is not ADR approved, so I don't want to give my dealer an inch. Just my approach, which others may disagree with, but ensures I can get my car serviced with no hassles.

I'm still interested to be part of this purchase now though.

You may wish to get advise from a freight forwarder to your add on costs for this transaction. There is a lot more involved than just a currency transaction plus freight. Just my 2c

I once purchased a single mag wheel and had it sent by sea freight from NZ and when I went to pick it up from the dock the amount of extra I had to pay customs there was insane: $471!! I actually found the invoice the other day and it included customs fees, handling etc...about 6 different extra charges!

Thanks Andrew.

I plan on doing just that. As far as the freight forwarder is concerned, The charges that are already included in the costs are a documentation charge of $50 and commercial pickup point charge of $80.

it's only an exhaust, so I'm not worried. waiting 3 years for warranty to expire is just too long for me. I'll be ready to sell the car by that time.

After checking you are 100% correct mate and even though I might get 2 through with customs invoices under A$1,000, definitely not 4.

But all is not lost. I'm looking at a single shipment cost landed here at A$1,350 by FedEx based on exchange rate of .80c .

Have one leaving the USA on Monday next week so I'll post here on the final cost once it arrives.

IMO, still a good deal for this exhaust considering where else I chased it up including some of our closest neighbours.

I was quoted (without freight) from New Zealand A$1,980 and Hong Kong A$2,450.

My BMW Performance Exhaust arrived today. Left the USA on the 24th and came Fedex economy service delivered this morning.

Goods in perfect condition and total cost delivered was A$1250, so I'm stoked.

Hope to install during the week or worse case Saturday.

For anyone interested, I purchased it from Dan at United and I have to say, service was first class.
