popped a tire

#$%^%^&!@ was driving through a construction zone (was doing 90km/h in a 70km/h) at night and at the last second noticed a sign for a bump in the road where the stripped asphalt ended. Needless to say smoked that bum pretty hard, 2 mins later the low tire pressure light came on. Checked the tire at a gas station, and found a 2 inch gash in it close to the rim. Went to a dealership and was quoted CDN $470 for the tire, and CDN $50 to get it mounted. Over $500 for a single tire.....?

What should I do? Find a place that will sell them cheaper? Get 4 new non RFT? The car is going into storage soon for the winter. Where else besides tirerack could I get this tire?

It's the front passenger tire that popped (215/40/R18 Bridgestone Potenza I believe?) Are there Canadian retailers that have better deals on this tire then the stealership?

Check the 4 sale section. there are usually a lot of people selling their OEM tires.

Buy a used RFT tire for a cheap solution. Not sure you can buy used tires in Canada though.
I would go with 4 non RFT’s personally. When I replaced the tires on my Z4 it was cheaper to buy tires and wheels mounted and balanced from Tire Rack than buy the same tires locally.

Ditto! Check your local craigslist also.

yea I wish I would have shopped around...
I popped one which ran $312 to replace and as they were replacing it, they kindly informed me my other right side tire had a nail in it...

so $624 later...

but I do like the run flats...

Go with the non RFT's. I did the same here in Germany and it was painful after shelling around $375 for tire mounting & balance just for 1 tire.

The first time my front tire blew out, I bought another rft for a ridiculous price.

The second time my front tire blew out, I bought 4 new Hankook's. F rft's!

I'm waiting for my tires to either wear out or blow before I buy a new set. The runcraps are ridiculous, I'm going with a proper set of dry weather tires, and you should do the same.

Gonna cost $700 to buy 4 new tires that run much better than the Bridgestones or $450 to replace one. Hmm..
