i got a JB3 gen 1 1.4 (getting gen 3/2.0 in the mail) anyway... my car has recently being going into limp mode at random...while iam cruising.... I live in south florida....iam running map5 with 93 octaine ... the weather has been going down and up like crazy...it got cold as 50 degrees then shot up back to 70 80 ... and then back down to 60.... and somewhere in the middle ... my car just started to go into limp mode at random... i just bought the BT Tool so i'll be able to give you guys the actual engine codes soon....
my main question right now is.... i got the premium package with bmw assist... my old 335 (never moded) used to tell them when my car needed maintenance and other info... does it also send engine codes??? because i got a service engine light that keeps coming on then off.... and i dont need them getting any Tuner Codes.... Also... i got an Efficent Dynamics sticker on my window that doesnt want to come off.... what does that mean???? Mina Last edited by xxx_mina; 03-08-2010 at 09:08 PM.. |

Do you have any other mods? Intake, downpipes, IC? Have you tried moving to map 3 and testing? I am running the same Map 5(gen 1 & 1.4) and weather here in Texas has been doing the same lately. Experiencing any long cranks?

XXX Mina, you are not supposed to run 1.4 on a Gen 1 board. Change to the gen 3 board and hopefully it will go away.
Im not sure if BMW assist sees your codes? |

Your question seems to be debated all over at present.

I spoke to my friend who is a BMW tech and he said that assist does not send this stuff to BMW, and only things like fluid levels and various other check control system warnings are communicated. No DME error codes. He told me that the cars have to be hooked up to the BMW scanner and be online via their laptops with BMW in order for them to see what is in the computer remotely. IF your car goes into limp mode they will see that but not a specific code as to what caused it. The dealer has to find that with their scan tool. People need to stop panicking over things their friends cousins brothers sister told them they heard at a dairy queen one night. Until someone can show hard evidence that shows me otherwise I am going to believe my tech and the fact that myself and the OP and many others with assist would of had their warranty voided already if it were true.

yeah i figured most people have premium so if it was a problem...it would be all over the boards...
as far as gen 1 and 1.4...i always ran 1.4 with my gen 1 board... i ordered the gen 3 board ($65) and 2.0 (waiting for it in the mail) .... and the bt scanner.... anyway...iam not experiencing any long cranks... or anything wrong at all... the car just randomly went into limp mode i switched to map 0/ stock and it went away for a day or two and still came back ....and the other day i switched back to map 5 (i got 93 octaine all over the place here) and it works fine as of right now... i'll have my bt scanner soon...i'll tell you the error codes stored...maybe i just got some bad gas... and now that its out of the system ...its running fine... i'll keep you guys informed as soon as i get new chip... MODS: are the jb3 gen 1 1.4 and KN&N Drop IN Filter.... |

JB3 vs Turbo Tuner
I see all of you are talking about your JB3 set ups. Does anyone know if the JB3 is that much better than the turbo tuner? I can find turbo tuners for 300 and JB3 doesn't get any cheaper than 450. Any advice or need to know info?

The JB3 2.0 performance is staggering, with race maps and proper race gas you will see very significant boost increases and the power delivery is smooth as golden. Additionally the map switching feature aligned to bolt ons and octane is fantastic.

not likely a JB3 issue, but if you have questions about that i would directly message Terry instead of posting the issue on the forum (if that is what your are thinking that it is a JB3 issue)
I had that ugly sticker on my window too...had the dealer take it off prior to picking up my car.
