Searching for space saver

Who makes a space saver that will fit the 135i. Andy Maddux no longer sells one.

You can get it directly from BMW. I don't have the part numbers in front of me now, but check with your parts dept. Since your car is most likely new, you should be able to do some arm twisting with the dealer and get a healthy discount on parts. This is the second car I bought from my dealer and they take care of me.

LeatherZ is still selling them, but they are out of stock and have restructured the pricing (for the better). At least I hope so, because I have one on order and am waiting for him to get them in. See:

http://leatherz.com/Merchant5/mercha...y_Code=all_E82

Although I haven't contacted them about availablity, another alternative might be:
http://www.bavauto.com/shop.asp

I haven't been able to make a direct link to the product, so you may have to " Select a year and model BMW to shop for... " at the top of the page, then search for "spare tire". Should come up, with a jack but no cover, for 279.99.

I just got one from LeatherZ...complete with the nice vinyl cover. Don't forget to get the tool kit (jack, tire / torque wrench), otherwise you'll still have no way of installing your spare.

When did you order and receive yours? I ordered on 1/19 and it still hasn't shipped.

My point is can't get them from him. So I just need to know what size it is so I can buy some where else.

As far as jack and wrench you can buy those from AutoZone for $30. In fact they a have a real cool electrically operated scissors jack that plugs into the cig lighter.

Did you try the Bavarian Autosport link above? From what I understand the offset is critical to clearing brakes and fenders, so the wheel needs to fit. You need to know more than 125x80x17. The wheel used by both LeatherZ and Bavarian is from BMW. If Bavarian doesn't have them in stock, good luck! Please let us know if you find another source and they fit.

FWIW, I'm not sure I would trust an "electrically operated scissors jack that plugs into the cig lighter" to work on a dark night in the middle of nowhere. If it's made by Duralast I would be even more skeptical.

I was involved in a two tire order through him, and it took about two weeks for the second wheel/tire to come in stock...the hold up being BMW North America.

Patience...

Thanks for the update! I wasn't concerned until I saw you post. Andy said something about a pending charge on my card until he ships, and I did not see it on my account either, so I started to wonder. Sent him an inquiry just in case.

You need a wheel chock too. NEVER jack a car up without a chock on at least 1 opposing wheel.

In the garage. I'm only planning on bringing it on road trips, when I'm far away from anywhere. Then it'll be at the bottom of the trunk, underneath whatever luggage we've stuffed in there too. I hope never to have to use it.

In town, I'll just use my mobility kit (United BMW sells them, as do many others) and just pump up the tire as needed until I can stop at a tire shop.

It seems to take up a lot of the room in the trunk. How is it secured down? or does it just bump around in there?

I guess one could leave it at home when just driving around town. If you do get a flat, you could get someone to drive you home, pick up the spare (and the tools), drive back to the car, change it, go home.

I would just use some bungee cords. I did that when I put all 4 summers in the back seat so they wouldn't crush me in a sudden stop. There are 2 nice hooks in the trunk to secure them to.

If I remember correctly, the 17" X3 donut spare fits. You should have no trouble ordering one from your local dealer (and he can get you the correct part number too).

I have an X3, but not a 135i. I don't think the X3 donut fits the 335i without a spacer (due to caliper clearing issues) but I think it fits the 135i. If anyone local to VA/DC/MD wants to check it out, they're welcome to stop by my house...

I have one in the trunk and it's wrapped in a plastic bag. It doesn't move around at all. I have the tools and jack in a canvas bag - no issues there either. Definitely worth the trouble with all these pot holes.

Why don't you try a test-fit and find out, reporting back?
