Why am I only getting 11 to 12MPG in my 128i?

Nothing extreme. I'm not shutting off the engine and coasting down hills or anything like that. I'm fortunate to have a commute that is mostly highway. Sixth gear on cruise control at 72 mph gets you something like 34 mpg on the flat stretches.

Ribimmer why do you run regular gas?

I use 89 octane gas, which I call "mid-grade" The owners manual says the minimum octane for the 128i is 87 so I'm above that. The engine never knocks so I see no reason to buy premium gas.
