85k Miles - Oil Pan Leak & Rotors = Fix or Sell
Have a 2011 128i in very good condition. This year seems like repairs will be new rotors and oil pan leak. With 85k miles in the odometer, should I sell or fix?
Estimated cost: $1,500 |

Some of the easiest repairs you can DIY... Parts aren't wildly expensive.
These are good talking points for a consumer that wants to bring down the price in knowing that he/she can fix it themselves. I vote keep the car and take upon the opportunity to learn more about it. It's nothing you can't accomplish in a day.

An oil pan leaking isn't very common repair, but a leaking oil filter housing(OFH where the oil filter cap housing meets the cylinder head) IS a very common leak area. Also a cracked valve cover can also cause an oil leak.
Oil leaks are hard to pin down. You really should wash the engine and then recheck. Some shops will use a UV dye to find the leaks(after washing the engine). Brake rotors and pads are a normal maintenance item. Also tires. You got to pay to play. Dack

I'm sorry, but you're going to sell your car because of a potential $1500 repair bill?

If you have a MT M-sport with no NAV unicorn car, you must keep it! If it's got NAV, still keep it. If it's an automatic, loaded car, I would sell that. Those are very common. Best wishes. Let us know what you decide. |
