If you mod your car, is the warranty void?

I'm just curious how this works. BMW has an amazing warranty and by modding the car, is the warranty voided?

Short answer, NO.

For the long answer, look up the "Magnuson-Moss Warranty - Federal Trade Commission Improvement Act"

Basically, the dealer has to prove that your aftermarket part caused the malfunction before they can deny you warranty service.

Edit: here's a little article about it: http://www.pt-tuning.com/policies/Magn-Moss-Act.html
