Spare ECU for flash tune program? Possible?

Hello everyone,

Meaning to ask this question since GIAC now has a flash/chip tune for our 135.
I was wondering if i could pick up an ECU from a 1,3,5 series(N54 engine) from a salvage yard. Have that flashed and swap out my OEM ECU. Would this method work with the N54. Then when going in for BMW service i would swap back to the original ECU and go seek service.
This is what i have done with my B5 A4, and avoided having any warranty issues when the car was under the factory warranty.

I don't think so. Each ECU is coded to the VIN of the car. The only way to get a new one working would involve a trip to the BMW Shop. Even if you could somehow make this work, how would you explain the low mileage between trips to the Service dept?

Damn you BMW!!! Im not happy with the news. I need to make a few phone calls around and see who knows who and such. I need a connection with a Tech from the dealership. I feel like im on the outside looking in'. I have gotten spoiled with VW/Audi/Benz/P-cars/Rover, having parts/tecs/ and managers for help and favors...etc.
