With all due respect, I don't think you want too much interest. I am not even sure I can go, but from previous experience, having a drive with 10+ cars becomes a real pain. You can't stay together, you attract too much attention (good and bad), there is no where for everyone to park, etc.

- Thanks for the heads up but I agree with AMPowerJ. For a cruise we will keep it tight. Primarily this forum. Later... depending on how everything goes we may be able to open things up (... in the Fall?).

Right now we're looking at Aug 5-7th, depending on Donnie. Coming in Friday afternoon doing a factory tour. More to follow.

road trip

How does the week-end of August 12th sound?

Perhaps someone can be responsible for taking care of recording who all will be attending. Once I get a number of how many, then I can start planning accordingly. We should confirm a date asap so that I can work on a factory tour as they do book fast.

Guys please confirm so we can change this to definite.

Also for those of us coming from out of town (myself included; coming from NY).
Do any of the locals have suggestions for places to stay that may also coincide with our route?

August 12th would work for me.

Any suggestions as to the route? The "diamond back" route near little switzerland is what the Carolina Euro crowd did last year and they seemed to have a good time.

There's a suggested route on the first page, but basically Donnie will be our tour guide. Its kinda how all this started. I chatted with Donnie about coming down to the 'Lina's. To enjoy some of his local roads + tail of the dragon.

I am only throwing this out to the gang. I am not the final word and certainly open to any changes. Just trying to solicit some thoughts.

We (the Performance Center) almost exclusively uses the Greenville Marriott (http://www.marriott.com/hotels/trave...ille-marriott/). This property is very convenient to downtown Greenville and BMW. I will check next week on trying to line the group up a factory tour and get the details on that. I also want to throw out to the group several dinner options for the week-end including the possibility of the cost of dinner at the Performance Center. We have a chef and his team on staff, and I will look into that.

I am not the tour guide but will make give you some things to think about. Several of you commented about the difficulty of driving with a large number of cars....you are correct!! Almost impossible!

Depart Greenville on Saturday morning from wherever you decide to stay....I will give you a route and tell you that you have to be here (http://www.jarretthouse.com/) at 12pm for lunch. This will give you a taste of the South & is only 1/2 mile off of our planned route. We will leave after lunch to continue our pilgrimage to the Tail of the Dragon. We can stay there until sometime after 3 to make the two hour trip to Asheville, NC. Now...depending on how much you want to spend...I will give you (in my own order) the hotels of choice: www.groveparkinn.com, http://www.biltmore.com/stay/inn/, or http://www.bohemianhotelasheville.com/. Keep in mind, if you have had twist your better half's arm to join you....the Grove Park Inn has a $40million spa. She will soon forget about all of those mountain roads that you have led her onto for the past 8 hours!
Asheville is quite a tourist town and has many hotels to fit your budget. Perhaps I can line us up some special parking in front of the Biltmore Esate on Sunday morning prior to your departure from Asheville.

In short, a lot of driving some pretty cool cars on some pretty cool roads! Oh yes...you are responsible for your own speeding tickets.

Won't be able to make the weekend of the 12th. Will be in Yellowstone then.
My wife and I did some of the the proposed drive last week and had a great time.
Hope all that can make it have a good time.

Arrival hotel update: Many of you have experienced this hotel before... during a PDC or a M School. Its a comfortable hotel with a superb restaurant. Donnie was gracious enough to get us a discounted rate which includes breakfast buffet for two.

Details:

"The BMW rate is $107.00, plus tax and includes full breakfast buffet for up to two guests per room, wireless internet access, plus a complimentary cocktail coupon which can be used in bar or restaurant. As soon as the block is built - Guests may also call the hotel to book a reservation in the room block named – “1 Addict”."

The room block will be kept open until August 1, 2011. At that time, the block will be closed and any unreserved rooms will be returned to hotel general sale.

Details will continue to pour in.

So long as one of our large projects doesn't decide to launch that weekend, I'm good to go. Let me know when the Marriott rooms are ready to book.

Is something similar being worked out for the Asheville night?

Oh - if this makes a difference, there's a possibility we would bring the X and the M, but I'm leaning towards bringing one car...

Just took delivery of my 2012 135 M last week from PDC with Donnie and he invited me along. Hope no one else minds. I should have the car properly broken in by then.
