Recommended winter tires?

So I braved the storm today with some all-seasons and nearly failed miserably. Plenty of fun drifting around turns, sure, but actually going up a hill took a ton of patience, especially after it defeated me the first run up.

So I figure, may as well throw some winter shoes on and was wondering what all of you recommend for the 128?

Anyone toss extra weight in the trunk also?

I just put on dunlop M3's on my 135i and made it up a small hill just fine. No additional weight in the back. I would recommend them.

Blizzaks are good, I used Michelin Arctic Alpins for many years. Now I have Dunlop Graspics and they're fine in the snow.

Any snow tire is going to be better than your no-seasons. Blizzaks are great in the snow. Also hakkapalitas are pretty badass snow tires. I used arctic claws on my old audi (distributed to a no name company by cooper) and they did great and were cheap.

there is a thread in the tire subgroup about performance vs regular winter tires. Worth reading. I decided to go with performance, since at the end of the day the roads in winter are dry 90% of the time in the Boston area and I still want to drive with my lead foot and have fun

The Dunlops that I mention (M3) are performance snows, not regular snows

I'm running 225x18 Goodyear UltraGrip Performace 2 on Andros Spec D 8" rims. For my area, we spend most of the winter on wet roads and 2" to 3" snowfalls. I had it out once after a storm and found a unplowed parking lot and it did OK. Started in 2nd and it was fine.

I got the Goodyears more for the feel and the rebate.

Bought a set of Blizzaks today. Thanks for the recommendations - hopefully everything goes a little smoother. Finding staggered winter tires is rather difficult...heh.

Blizzaks on - absolutely night and day compared to the Pirelli's I had before. Not a single skid or slip the entire way up the same hill the nearly defeated me last time. Glad I got them right before the storm hits today too.

Thanks again for all the recs. Didn't need snow tires for the past decade living out west, good to know Blizzaks are still amazing.

if you are SERIOUS about snow-------forget everything else and get yourself a set of Nokian Hakapaliitta R2 snow tires......better than anything else out there and well worth it. You won't regret it.
