Unfortunately, no one in the Seattle area seems to care about the E90. I keep waiting for someone to ask “Is that the new 3?” or flash a thumbs up or something but there’s no love. It’s sad really, but I think the folks up here are just getting jaded by all the money and cool cars.

At my office you can’t swing a dead cat in the parking garage without hitting a BMW…

I notice people glancing. Its a nice feeling.

So far I got one "I like your bimmer." So what she was a crack head and asked me for change afterwards. I know in my heart she liked it.

Parents are too busy worrying that their children might not like them to do any actual parenting.

Bad grammar exists the world over, and I know it is no different in the UK (though your slang and liberties with grammar are far more amusing to me). What really gets me is, as you've pointed out, using phrases incorrectly and even words that don't exist (like irregardless). I'm always disappointed that people take no pride in learning the lanuage they speak. "Could care less" of course, means that one does care, perhaps significantly.. and therefore is is possible for them to care less. The proper phrase, as you have pointed out is "couldn't care less" which implies the complete absence of concern.

Well, my Anglo friend, if you're going to deal with us Americans you will have to get used to STUPIDITY and LAZINESS. And we seem to be proud of it (this will be displayed shortly by the grunts and barks in reply to this post...).

Yeah, this was . So what.
Zep, not off topic at all, IMO! I'm glad to finally read a post on that "topic" to which I can agree! Woohoo! ( . . . hmmmm, . . . "to which I can agree" . . . is that correct grammar?) Oh well, whatever!

I pass through a construction site on the way to work at pretty much the same time every day, and almost every time the same woman is holding the Stop/Slow sign. Whenever I pass by her, she turns her head to follow me. Now, I look much younger than I actually am (I'm 33 but look about 21), so I'm not sure if she's checking out the car, or wondering how I could afford such a nice car. Either way, at least she's looking.

You guys are speaking a foreign language to me, I've never noticed anybody checking out my car and the only compliment I got was from my neighbor. It's possible I get too concentrated driving a stick so I don't notice people staring, but still ...............

"to which I can agree" is superlative. Ladies and Gentlemen, please note the proper placement of the preposition!!

Acutally, "I could care less" is the proper expression. "I couldn't care less" is a double negative, acutally indicating a positive meaning.

"I couldn't" = I don't
"care less..." = don't care

I don't, don't care = I do care.

I learned that in the 3rd grade here in the United States.

Assuming you're not joking, I'll follow up.

"I couldn't care less" says that you care the least amount possible. You could not care less than you currently do. There is no less caring that could possibly be done. Therefore, you don't care at all, modulo Zeno's paradox.

I've been complimented many times. Last friday, I was waiting at an intersection and was behind a garbage truck. The garbage man hanging off the back, gave me hand signals of numbers...5, 4, 5, so I first thought he was asking me the time but it didn't make any sense because it was 9 am...so then I realized he was asking if my car was a 545i. I simply put three fingers in the air and when we drove off, I pulled along side him and he asked me to lower my window. I told him it was the new three and he told me it was a nice car.

I've also been complimented by 3 different valet drivers and by a security guard at the local supermarket. He wanted to see the inside.

It's pretty cool when people ask you about your car. Nice feeling!

I've gotten a lot of looks and a couple people actually commenting in the last three months. The one I thought was the coolest was the nod I got from the driver of a Z8 as he drove by me in the opposite direction in downtown Kirkland. I was thinking to myself "shouldn't I be giving YOU the nod?"

I hate to steer off topic again, but seh you're right. You could not care less ...or You couldn't care less is correct. The only way you could have a double negative if you interpret the phrase literally is if you were to say "You couldn't not care less."

As someone already said, "I could care less" means "I care more now, but I could care less later" So you see, the phrase "I could care less" doesn't make sense, but so many people use it. Just add "possibly" in. "I could possibly care less" or "I couldn't possibly care less". Now the differences are clear, I think.

But who cares? I could care less.
