Exclamation Tranny Problems? 2010 6mt

I wanna start out with, ive always felt my tranny/shifting didn't feel right.
I've gone to BMW of Escondido twice about clutch problems and both time I got the "we were unable to recreate this incident"

Well now (16k miles) if I'm decelerating in higher rpm my shifter shakes.
Now yes, it's a manual car, it Always shakes.

But imagine a vcious dog growling at you and about to bark?
That's what the shifter feels like. It goes from it's normal rumble to a "mean" rumble. (I've taken care of my baby so I don't think it's mad at me) haha.

Like I said, 16k miles. Incident normally occurs around 4k rpms.

Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks for the help in advance

You might have the dealer loosen all the mounts, both motor mounts and both trans mounts. Then start and stop the engine a few times. Then have them retighten everything back up. Sometimes the engine or trans gets "cocked" durring the "wedding". Thats the only thing that comes to mind. G.L.

I don't think my dealership will go through that trouble but I'll bring it up! Thank you Dackelone!

Anyone have any other ideas?

I would def have them check this as well. My friend bought a brand new S2000 with this exact issue. Don't let them push you over on this!

I'd try a different dealer if you can. They seem to vary massively in how much they're willing to do before giving you the 'could not reproduce' line.

I have a 2009 with 42k miles. I occasionally get a weird shake at 1st gear. Here how it goes;

Put in 1st, and slowly depress clutch while slowly getting on gas, like any other manual.. and I get little stutter no matter where I keep the revs. I understand if I drop it too low, there might be stutter/shake/low frequency vibration but it does it even if I keep it a little up either. Rest of the gears are fine, no issues, she still pulls hard, no slippage noted.

any ideas?

Actually I notice this too occasionally. I wonder if it's to do with the dual mass flywheel (assuming our cars have them).

Yes, our cars have a dual mass flywheel. Ever switch off the engine with your foor off the clutch pedal - you can hear the rattle from the dual mass flywheel. This is why I always switch off the engine with my foot on the clutch.

OP - have you ever had the hood open and try moving the car (some) with the hand brake on. See IF the engine is moving around too much. Could be you have a bad/broken motor mount. I replaced the motor mounts on my ex's e36... when I took out the old units... both were shot. When I say shot - one of them was in two peices and the other one the top stud threads had sepperated from the hydraulic mount. Are you hard on taking off from the T-light drags? This can take its toll on mounts. Just some thoughts.

I just went outside to check out that suggestion, and my engine didn't move more than 1mm.

And I've never pushed it too hard off the line, I'm more of a sweeping curves and tight corners kinda driver haha.

And also the issue I've been complaining to BMW about is that whenever i shift from second to third gear there is a loud THUD noise coming from the middle of the car.
Maybe they have something to do with each other?

I've been complaining to BMW of Escondido about this for over a year.

Great Service, Huh?

Humm... maybe try another dealership. ? You should go out with the shop forman to show him this sound. Or better yet record a short video of it.

Sounds like they could be related. The rear trans mounts are behind the shifter under the center of the car. Maybe the bolts are loose there? They should atleast check for tightness there. Also the quibo/flex disc bolts should be checked. That is the rubber hockey puck looking thing that takes some windup from the driveshaft. Normally these quibo's fail at high miles(100K plus). Just some thoughts though.

This is a good observation, yes I can retrospectively remember that.

May be something about dual mass resonating at that RPM range...?
