Cool Jet Black 135i Ordered

2009 135i
Jet Black
Savanna Beige Leather
Gray Poplar Wood Trim
Premium Package
M-Sport Package
Active Steering
Heated Seats
Premium Hi-Fi
iPod/USB Adapter

MSRP - $44,700
Paid - $42,100 ($1035 over invoice)

Timeline:
July 06 -- Order Placed
July 13 -- Production Started
July 14 -- Production Finished
July 24 -- Departed Germany
August 06 -- Arrived In U.S.
August 10 -- At Preparation Center
August 21 -- At Dealer
August 24 -- On The Road!

Hey everyone. I'm really excited about this car. I sold my G35 a couple weeks ago and had my heart set on a new STi (before the G I had a 2003 WRX), but I changed my mind at the last minute and went with the 135i.

I probably could have done a little better on the price, but the salesman and I were both happy in the end, so I think it was worth it. Also, last week I offered $41,100 (edmunds TMV) at a MSRP of $42,700, and he accepted that waaaay to quickly, so I came back asking for $2000 more in options for only $1000 more, and he took it, so I'm happy

My sales guy said that instead of ordering it directly, they would acquire a spot in line from another dealer who had already had one in the early stages of production, then they would just modify the options to my order. Is this a common practice? He seems convinced that I'll get it before the end of August (6-8 weeks), and just emailed me today saying it should begin production within a week. I can't wait!

In the mean time I'm driving a big chevy truck

Great selections - sounds like it's going to be a gorgeous car.

Just speaking from experience as a Jet Black owner, I hope you're prepared for all that comes with maintaining the appearance and finish of the paint/clearcoat. (Hint: Probably not too late for you to change the color choice.)

Sorry for the ignorant question, but when you said paid 1000 over invoice does that mean the total paid or minus the 3-4k in taxes?

Yes, getting a "build slot" from another dealer and modifying it is commonplace. That's how my order went. The options/color will change on the online tracker just before it is built.

Thanks! I'm not much of a photographer, but I'll see if I can find someone to lend me a fancy camera or take some pics for me

I'm not too worried about it.. both my last cars were black and they turned out all right after a few Wisconsin winters. And you know what they say... once you go black (and tan) you never go back (again)

Invoice is 'what the dealer pays'. On my car the invoice was $41,065. The sticker price (MSRP) was $3,635 more than the invoice, but I only paid $1,035 more than the invoice, or $2,600 under the MSRP. All of that is before taxes/title/license (and in my case a $125 service fee). The easiest way I know to find out the invoice is to look it up on edmunds.com.

Let's hope you get the spot...factory shuts down for August for vacation. I managed to find a used one with 9500 and picked it up last night. You're going to love it. Hopefully you're breaking it in by early September...

Well my dealer seems to be 100% sure it'll happen, and since they modified the options for a car already in the production line I'm pretty confident. If it does get bumped I don't mind getting a 2010, I have a truck to drive in the meantime, plus I had a clever vanity plate in mind for a '10 that I was kinda hoping to get anyway

Got my VIN today!

As an added bonus, I found out my dealer is willing to give me the car without drilling plate holes in the bumper, even though they're required here.

So I just signed up on the BMW site, my VIN was recognized immediately and paint/leather/trim/options were all correct, except one thing. It's missing the active steering. Kind of worrying since everything else is correct. I will check with the dealer to make sure.

Other than that I can't wait!

update: I emailed the dealer and he said active steering was listed on his end, and now the BMW site isn't showing any of the options, just paint/leather, so I guess this may be the one situation where I should actually trust the dealer instead of the internet

I got my VIN today also. Looks like we're getting the last of the 2009 1 series- I called my CA today and it turns out they're out of allocations, so that's it. When is your build day?

I'm used to driving a 4-banger Honda Accord (which I have driven for 8 1/2 years and have a great deal of affection for, but it's time to move on) so I'm expecting the upgrade to be enormous. Can't wait.

Not sure when my build day is.. should the dealer know this? He keeps saying he'll keep me updated but then skimps on the 'important' details.

Accord to 135 is quite an upgrade.. I don't think you'll regret it

It's definitely hard to give up a car you love. I loved my WRX more than anything, ugly but extremely quick and nimble, and I really felt like I was 'one' with the car when I drove it. The G35 on the other hand was easy to let go. It was an awesome ride and looked great from the outside, but not quite fast enough, way too heavy, ugly interior (gray dash ), and had no soul or 'x-factor' from the driver's seat. The 135 should fix all of that nicely!

I remember when the WRX was king of compacts- awesome that you got to drive one then. Also, I didn't find out my production day from the dealer- I got it from calling 1-800-831-1117. You just need your production # which is different from the VIN (maybe VIN works too though).

Just spent an hour and a half in my friend's stick shift passat brushing up on my manual technique. I have quite a ways to go but at least I'm proficient and I know what I'm getting into- the rest should come with time. At first, the 135i will be about ten times as much car as I know what to do with but I think half the fun is going to be just growing into it. Slowly and carefully that is.

My car has finished procution! Just 8 days after the order was placed.. seems almost too fast to be true. I thought the sales guy was all talk saying 6-8 weeks, but now it's looking like it might even be closer to 6. w00t!

Yeah definitely always err on the side of caution. The WRX was my first manual, and it was on its 3rd trans when the engine finally destroyed itself at 115,000 miles. (In my defense, it was AWD and had a well documented weak trans, but still, be careful )

Well my car made it to the dealer. I think it may have gotten there last week Wednesday or Thursday, but my CA was out of town last week (great timing!) and he emailed me yesterday saying that they just had a chance to let him know it arrived because they'd been busy with a big charity sales event the last few days. I don't mind the extra wait but I'm just praying they didn't let someone test drive it!

I went there last night after close and spotted it in the back lot. I was probably 200 feet away but it looked great! I'm going in tomorrow to look at it and let them know if I want them to wash and wax it or just let it be. He said if they did wax it they'd do it by hand, no buffing, so I think I may let them.

One more day till...

Oh yeah, I ordered some stuff too..

From bimmian.com:
Black roundel stickers

From JleviSW.com:
Black high gloss grill
Modified clutch delay valve
Oil catch can
aFe filter (oiled)

The stickers are already here, stuff from JleviSW is hopefully on the way, order is still 'pending' though..
