Types of Steering

I have several VIN breakdowns and they say my steering is "LL" or "LINKS". What does that mean? I have been reading about feeling the steering more with this one and less with that one... Any comments are welcome.

Unless I am mistaken, I believe all 1 series sold in the USA have mechanical steering assist. It appears that the soon to be introduced 2 series will have electric assist. A good reason to keep our 1's.
