Let Performance center detail car before delivery?
I am taking delivery of my 1 at the performance center in March. The delivery coordinator lady told me it will be detailed. She had no idea if it meant anything more than washed, but she is finding that out for me.
The question is: do I let them apply wax or do whatever else they do? Does anyone know if they are good at the PC or if they are going to introduce all kinds of swirls on my paint? Any comments welcome. |

I'd guess that they'd be better at the PC than a regular dealer, but let's let people with experience chime in....particularly with darker colors that are more difficult to get right. I'd probably have let them detail mine if I did PCD, but I didn't let the dealer do it.

Don't have personal experience with the PC....but as an ex detailer and a car fanatic....I would not have a problem letting them do the delivery detailing. They are equiped to do it right and will use prescribed care.
Now your local dealer...not so much. |

For the record, my dealer did a fantastic job on my car. I guess it's hit or miss…

I was pretty satisfied with the initial detailing job that the guys at the Performance Center did. I was one of the customers with a dinged hood from a July 2008 hailstorm and I went over every inch of the surface of the car with my bare hands before accepting delivery. It was as smooth as glass everywhere with no swirls; keep in mind that my car is Alpine White so it won't show swirls nearly as much as the darker colors.
Enjoy, ST

Agree. I think the PC did a great job on my car. It was immaculate at delivery. As I understand it they can only use BMW and Maquires products, so that may influence some owners' decision as some are very particular on the products used. Believe the workers doing the prep work are all contracted and it sounds like that is all they do so they should be good at it.

They could've messed up Alpine pretty good and you'd never know. One of the great benefits to a white car

I believe when i see it. I'll be surprised if they even use Meguire's soap to wash the car. |

Believe me, I worked in many dealers before. There's no such thing as waxing a customers car. All they do is wash it, nothing more. |

This is not about my local dealer. It is about the performance center delivery program.

I can confirm that the BMW Performance Center in SC washes and waxes every new car that goes through their facility. Even our school cars have to go through the same process before they can be mileaged for track use. The BMW PC only uses BMW products or Meguiar's. Ray H. |
