REALLY Learning To Drive 1
Hey All,
It's been a while since I posted but I've been busy over the past few months since we moved to Tennessee. Recently I joined our local SCCA region and started autocrossing my 08 128i sport. Since this is my first real rear wheel drive car (an 89 4banger mustang doesn't count) I decided autocrossing would be a good way to REALLY learn to drive my girl while keeping wear and tear to a minimum. I've only done two events so far but I have an autocross school coming up soon that should help get my times down some. If any of you out there want to drive your 1 close to the limit in a relatively safe enviroment I highly recommend joining the SCCA and going to an event or two. Enjoy some photos from the last event I attended with the local Porsche club.

Thanks for the pics, jb. That looks like a lot of fun.
Like you, my 128i will be my first rwd car and my first "fun" car. I'm going to sample BMWCCA advanced driving school, autox, and (someday) performance driving events. I'm looking forward to learning a lot from other enthusiasts.

Very cool. I would also recommend attending a BMW CCA Performance Driving School if one is put on in your area.

This might be just the ticket for me. I have almost always had manuals. I certainly can drive my 1er, but I want perfect shifts, heel toe-ing etc to be much better than where I'm at now.

If that's all you really care about learning you could learn it much quicker and cheaper by just speaking to someone that knows what they're doing and practicing as you drive around town. |

Here's a few old one's from July. Been busy and haven't made it out as much as I would like but that is life.
Go Drive! Go AutoX!

if you don't hit a cone once in a while, you're not pushing hard enough! as for taping the bumper, i only did that at the first 2 events. now if anything, i think i'd rather tape the spokes of my wheels since that's where i tend to clip cones the most. probably not the best idea though, especially is the tape were to come loose

Good call man! I took my 128 to the track a couple weeks ago for the first time as well, really awesome experience and the first time I've really pushed a car that hard. Definitely gives you an even greater appreciation for what your BMW can really do
