Leatherette driver seat starting to crack on the side

Hi,

Need some advice as to what I can do to repair the beginning crack on my driver side black leatherette seat. I noticed the other day that it had started to crack sort of diagonally.

Is there anything that can fix it or would I have to replace the whole top skin of the seat?

Thanks in advance,

Nick

When I purchased my 135i there was a small crack in the same location you're describing... I don't think it's grown or gotten worse, but I'm also interested in a fix. I'll be taking the car to the dealer next week, I'll see what they say.

I had the same issue - took to BMW - they replaced no charge.

Definitely a warranty situation I would think.

Over here in Germany, I am past the 2 year warranty I fall under....even on a US specs car. I am talking right now with the dealer that sold me the car and see if this is covered under the extended warranty or if I have to ask BMW for a "goodwill" fix. I'll try to keep everyone posted.

Pics or it never happened!!!
Here is a pic of my 99.5 A4 with leatherette. It cracked after 10 years, at that spot. The rest of the seat bottom did not have a scratch. I was amazed at the quality. Time will tell if BMW's leatherette will hold up over the years

Vinyl / Synthetic Leathr Repair

Leather Magic Liquid Vinyl is a highly concentrated mixture of plasticizers and ketones. When exposed to air the ketones evaporate leaving the raw plasticizers in place creating a thin layer of a vinyl-like substance. Liquid Vinyl is primarily used as a base adhesive combined with fibreglass Mesh as well as the liquid mixture (part A) of Peanut butter. It may also be used to permanently glue vinyl together. The ketones actually dissolve the vinyl to which it has been applied and when pressed together and allowed to dry thoroughly the two pieces of vinyl actually become one. Liquid Vinyl strengthens as it cures. The longer the liquid vinyl is in position the stronger it becomes. Liquid vinyl dries in about 3-5 minutes in 60 to 70 degree temperature, with low humidity.

As an update to help others... took my car in today for HPFP/Injector recall and mentioned the crack in my driver's side lower seat bolster when I dropped the car off... service advisor first said that it's what BMW considers normal wear and tear, but he would look into it. When I picked up my car tonight, there was definitely a replacement lower seat cover on special order
