BMW M Performance Steering Wheel II Installed

First off, for anyone who is going to tackle any steering wheel install, DO NOT CLOSE THE TRUNK!!!

A big thanks to Marco of McKenna BMW for the steering wheel and fast shipping. If anyone is looking to purchase parts from BMW directly, speak with Marco, not only did he give a good price, his customer service and response has been great.
His contact info is:
Email: msaines@mckennacars.com
PM: McKennaBMW
Phone: call/text directly at (310) 883-4577

I must say, the steering wheel feels GREAT. It get a much better grip than the stock leather steering wheel that we are all very accustomed to. The steering wheel is also a bit smaller so it feels very compact which is awesome.
The flat bottom does take a few turns to get use to as where you originally expected the bottom of the steering wheel to be is slightly off.

Now onto the photos:

The Steering Wheel was well packaged to protect from damage.

The smell of a new product MmmmMmmm

The Steering Wheel installed

Thank you for confirming that i need this

looks awesome. The only thing I wish was that they used the cover with the M logo in it (i believe aussie or metak covered theirs in Alcantara and reused teh M logo! )

You could always just get the sticker and just put it on.

Its not the same. The OEM cover had an indendation with accent lines that IMHO look 10X better. Metak did this best with his own Alcantara wrapping to keep the lines, M logo, and everything. Thats my top choice!

Either way I want this wheel

Of course the indent would look better but not as skilled as Metak. You should get it. I definitely would recommend it.

Can you elaborate on how the colors look really bad together? Maybe I can get a different photo for you to see.

+1 on that.

Also, one of my friends has an alacantra steering wheel in his '04 330i and it doesn't wear well. It's pretty ratty looking. Have they modified the alacantra recently to make it wear more gracefully?

I think my ideal steering wheel is this size and shape, with the VO stripe, and in leather like the stock steering wheel.

When money is no object you can go right ahead and have IND dye the middle VO for you......

As for me I will be perfectly happy with Roundel blue

I think the orange that many have done on the forums don't really look that good in my opinion due to just too much orange in my opinion. Granted, the blue doesn't match the interior but gives a kind of freshness/brightness to the interior.

Yes I did. Had to jump the car to open the trunk.

Thanks for the comments

Depends on if you want the alcantara trim or not.

Not sure on if they made any changes to the alcantara but you can always wear a glove if you like to reduce the wear.

Definitely you can have the middle in VO. If you were to dye it, you would end up dying the stitching underneath the stripe. I looked into that as an option in the past. Another suggestion that was made was to just wrap that stripe.

I have been told that if they had to take the whole thing apart to restitch and change out the whole stripe it would be a pain since the alcantara is glued to the actual steering wheel so removal would be really tough and to put it back together, it may not be as tight as factory. Not sure how true this is but didn't want to take the risk, maybe another forum member who has done this can chime in.
