Is your cold idle that high, or are you giving it some pedal?
What was the ambient temp?

I don't get any burble, damn it!

Hmm...not that I've heard yours, I don't know that I would like that. The VW GTI has a cool burble type sound, but no bang.
-The beeping is my v1 powering up.
-No pedal at all at idle, this car has the loudest idle that I have ever heard. It was 68 degrees when I got into the car this morning... Like I said, I was blipping the throttle lightly to do it on purpose, I can drive it with out it doing it if I am paying attention.
-tomorrow morning, start your car, keep it in first til about 4k let off the throttle then barely blip the pedal and you will get some "pop," apply a little more pressure and you will get a loud one. you have to be blipping it fairly frequently....

This is my 3rd N54, and every single one has done this w/ stock exhaust & golf tee mod, a 8/06 build (335i coupe), a 4/08 build (335i coupe) and now a 2/09 build (135i).

Yeah, that's what I'm getting --but again, only when the engine is "cold."

wow, I only get a backfire like that if I go off throttle after a heavy accerelation...and only sometimes. Though I do have the "snap, crackle, pop" that we all love so much

Nope, nothing like that at all. I get cool burble once in a while, but nothing louder than that, and nothing like what you and others have no matter what I do. Seems some TT's are much richer at cold start than others.

My dealer recently fixed this issue (like the clip posed by mike07i, but not as loud) by replacing a coolant temperature sensor and updating the engine software. It is definitely a defect, don't let your dealer tell you otherwise.
